How's the dam looking ?
Anyone been to the dam recently ?
Was originally going to try it tomorrrow morning but recent rain has me thinking it might not be a good idea.
Any reports on condition or advisability ?

Part of it is closed. This was on the Warringah site.
"The eastern section of the Manly Dam mountain biking trail is currently closed for upgrade works. Please made a detour via Southern Cross Drive to Nyrang Road. Work is expected to finish 4 August 2008. Your cooperation is appreciated."
I went and checked it out the other day. (walking of course)
The trail is being moved further away from the houses. It will have improved drainage and hopefully less erosion.
Unfortunately in the short term it will be an easier ride, not quite freeway but not single track, but give it a few months to settle in and it will be back to a fast fun ride.
I spoke to the builders, they were nice blokes and they recognised that it was for cyclists and not just walkers and they are adding some twists and turns to keep it interesting.
The builders did mention that some people were riding the closed section and were being quite abusive towards them. Kind of sucks that a few idiots would do that, but that's just my opinion.
In short most of the trail is open but wet, by tomorrow it may be ok without any more rain.

Sounds like it would be best to leave it alone for a while.
I'll give it a try next week if the weather looks ok.
Maybe the abusive guys will get a stick through their rear derailleur.....

I rode it a couple of weeks ago and didn't notice any construction.
Perhaps it hadn't started at that stage.

Monday the 11th is the day I've got booked in to spend there, if it's not finished there may have to be a last-minute change of plans to somewhere else...
I'm sure it will just be a small section of the dam which is closed.
I did a couple of laps today..
It is still quite wet in places with some deceptively deep puddles catching you out sometimes..
maintenance section still closed with the sign still saying delayed to the 11th due to wet weather....

Yep, i rode it a week or so ago and while there were some puddles most of the course was fairly good.
Due to the closed section described above we simply had to ride the roads to the end of the closed section (just staying right, riding to the cul-de-sac with the turning island in the middle, where the trail then runs behind the houses along the grassed area).
Very interested in checking out the new section once opened.
