Bike trailers for kids

Has anyone out there had experience with bike trailers ?

I have to drop off my 3 year old at childcare a few mornings a week and the best option at the moment is to use bike ( then ride to work). I'm considering getting a child trailer.

If anyone has some words of wisdom, I'd like to hear them.

Wouldn't consider a trailer! If i did it would only be used in a car free area.

Get the child rack that fits on the rear of the bike, a pannier!

Are they so dangerous with cars because drivers assume there's nothing behind the bike? Merge across and..... Sad

Yes that's right. Though the trailers do have a tall "antenna" with a flag at the top, people wouldn't always see the trailer below Sad

The advantage of a trailer is that if you OTB or fall off, the trailer is in most cases still on it's 2 wheels.

IMO you shouldnt be on the road with your child whether there in a trailer or one that attaches to your bike. I have used both, i prefer the trailer, mainly becuase i can take both of my kids at once (2 and 4 yr old), plus i believe its safer, if you come off your bike the trailer stays straight, it does not topple over, if you come off your bike with the other type, well the child is not going to be in a good way. I use it only on cylceways in my area, no way would i ever go on the road with one. I wouldnt risk my kids life in that way.

These trailer bikes are great around the Olympic Park and other similar places

In my experience using this trailer with my daughter on and off road, I have to agree with comments of others and am concerned about safety and do not choose to use on road. Directional stability is a problem as the passenger often does not lean with the rider. 3 yrs old may be on the lower end of the size scale for these bikes, but they are heaps of fun in the right environment.
