After Rotorua I went to Taupo to ride the W2K track, a ride that Jason who I met at Summer Hill suggested. When I set out I did not plan to do a long ride but it ended up turning into one. Luckily I planned ahead and had extra food and my lights with me.

W2K is a 14km single track that wraps around the lake. The first 8km of climbing had me wanting to turn back early, good thing I didn’t there was 6km of downhill waiting around the next corner Cool While riding along the trail I came across a local who had been working on a 10.5km lookout loop, he sold me on the idea of riding it when he said it was better than the W2K track it branched off. So when riding back along W2K towards my car, I decided to give the new loop a go. The ride to the lookout was great, made better by the fact I got there just as the sun was setting. Few quick snaps of the sun set, then the lights were setup for the ride out.

After doing two 40km+ rides in two days, I decided it was time to rest so headed to Wellington to prepare for the Karopti
