When it's time for it to happen, it will happen, but if you ride without a helmet, you are looking for it.

Why so certain it's fake Pikey?

And in response to the thread title question : I nearly always have my shin and knee guards on, but then I don't use clip ins either..... Sticking out tongue

That does it, I'm getting a set. :0 ATM all I have is a set of forearm/elbow guards and Pinstripe kneeguards, bit nothing to cover the shins.

just buy some soccer shin pads if you have nothing for the shins

I don't care if I look like a goose wearing gear. I always wear my shin pads in anything other than flat firetrail style stuff. Manly dam I wear, as do everywhere else where I'll be riding at speed or with jumps.

It takes 1min to put on, but if I stack and rip myself open it'll take time to heal and possible time off work. Cna't afford that. LOL

I don't wear elbow pads yet as I don't have any, but they are the next purchase for me. Wearing gear, I also feel more confident to push myself and the bike.

Yeah, a helmet for me is a given. The only time I won't is if I nick across the rd to the shops (litteraly 200m).

Riding with flats/platforms (with aggressive grip studs) I always wear shin pads after a couple of incidents where I've received deep punctures right on the skin bone. Lucky, they could have been rips instead of just punctures. It just hurts so friggen much if that pedal spins around and wacks you fair in the skins on a cold day.

I ride alone quite a bit and I've only swerved to miss one snake so far in my MTB career. With these skin pads, next time I'm going to execute a mad bunny hop instead of swerving.

If I have clip-less pedals on (which is hardly) then it's elbow pads instead of skins as I tend to forget I'm clipped in, due to mostly riding with flats.

It's funny the way that works. When I wore no protection, I used to tumble quite offten. Once I got the elbow pads, I stopped falling off.

Well, except for the last stack Sad

Forget shin pads, if you are really worried about injuries do what this guy does

wear a sumo suit

HAHAHHA

Single tracks might have an added technical angle though... hahahah

When I finally get back on the bike, I'm definitely getting a sumo suit !
