Can anybody tell me the best direction to ride the red hill trails?....i have been up there and still yet to work out where i shound be going!
So far i have headed from the plateau at the carpark down past the bmx track and then along a longish downhill section eventually ending up next to the rural fire station on willandra road. I was told that i coould then rejoin the trail by cromer golf coarse and head back that way. Anyway, it would be appreciated if somebody could tell me the best loop to do in the area with a bit of freeride thrown in!?

Kind regards

Matt.

There are two bits that in my opinion are the best single trails to do there, but it is so hard to explain where they are!!! One is near the Sport Centre taking you from a fire trail down to the gates on the sealed road. The other takes you down to Wakehurst Pkwy and crosses it below a bridge. this last one i only did it twice and still not sure how to get to it Sad
Even if I wanted i could not tell how to get to them. If you want i can show you thou.

There are links on the maps page, but take a look here, this will load in your browser, or you can grab the KML directly if you've got Google Earth:

Anyhow, the best trail there from what I know is the Rim Ride. That's the furthest North single trail. Not that I know much about Red Hill as hardly ever go there. The one titled 'Corner Cut' and 'No Name' in the centre are also pretty nice.

If you look on satellite view you'll see there's loads of stuff the we haven't mapped. Think it's time to take another tour with a GPS and camera.

What sort of riding are you after?

On top of the excellent, technical singletrack there are a couple of fun DH / FR tracks which both spew you out onto Wakehurst Parkway between the Academy of Sport and Oxford Falls.

The techy stuff can be a little hard going if you're not used to it, but its a good skill building area, especially the areas around and including "The Drop Zone"

I have been riding there since 2003 and still find new tracks!

Also, I should be riding Oxford Falls on Sunday morning so could try to show you a couple of the tracks if you want to meet me afterwards (unless you want to ride O.F as well). I'll be riding a tractor so no real chance of doing the technical stuff - just the DH / FR stuff.

Another Matt (and another UK import)

Supreme cycles have a detailed map on their website of RH if I remember correctly..

Nothing like posting without research I say!

@DS: Nothing like posting a moan without actually including any substance.

Here's the map you're talking about:

find new tracks and get lost up there often - and I horse ride, bike ride and walk the dogs up there! but then I am also called Blondie!
I can show you the rim ride to the drop zone and also the downhill which takes you to the wakehurst but like the others say, directions are harder, although, if you go in, follow the fireroad along and only the fireroad it's easy enough to get to the drop zone...having said that, every single time I go up there with Sean he seems to totally lose his sense of direction so maybe that's not the best help - those maps are good though - I have come across quite a few blokes actually riding with them... one day one of them gave me one as I was lost on my horse - too funny!
just post a ride and someone will come along and help!

MEEE Smiling

ps WHY has it taken you over 2 years to post then?

rob and sean - be nicer yes?!

I have just returned from overseas and always thought that Red Hill was a Down Hill venue. Not keen on down hill as I don't want to risk smashing my shoulder again (plus my nerve has gone in some areas)

If anyone would like to meet and go over some single track and non DH tracks that would be cool - weekends or during next week... I would be IN

I posted a new ride meeting for tomorrow at 2. Unless it keeps raining... the area is not good if it too wet.

christine's picture

it has everything but its quite easy to go nowwhere near downhill/free ride stuff - I avoid it most of the time (i videoed George jumping some of that stuff and it was massive!)
The drop zone is good, that is where I sit and watch and often recover from a big night out while the boys play
Red Hill is so much fun...
