Is Red Hill off limits now to MTB's also or just moto's?

Just heard today that a few moto's were fined $2200 each after they were caught riding in the Red Hill area. Apparently they were coralled by a helicopter and a couple of guys on Moto's before they were caught. Is this for real? Has anyone else heard this or am I being had?!? I always thought Red Hill was crown land. Look forward to the feedback Smiling

UPDATE:
My source was a guy who works at B.A it was around a week ago. He said there are now new signs at the entrance of Lady Penrehn Drive Red Hill. I don't enter from there so I haven't seen them. I ride Red Hill up to 3 times a week and am keen not to cop a fine? Has anyone seen these signs -know exactly what they say?

It is still OK to ride moto at RH as long as you are on a REGISTERED motorbike. More than likely that those fined were on unregistered motorbikes.

It is crown/church land and as far as I know still the northern beaches playground for two wheels/horses/walkers Smiling

as i was riding my horse last weekend and the police helicopter was about on the red hill side, i was in oxford falls... however! i will ask my trusty dog walking friend who knows all... but Sean is correct...
I did hear a while ago that the residents have been complaining a lot and the police were going to give it attention for the trail bikes - but a helicopter etc.... thats expensive!

I saw a similar enforcement operation at Lucas Heights recently. (Minus the chopper though).

Whilst I may be flamed for this it is good to see the moto's getting some attention from the fuz. As patient as I am the roar of dozens of un-registered (thus not meeting the noise laws) bikes screaming past my house on a weekend morning well over the speed limit is starting to get beyond a joke. Despite some near mises with cars and in one case a pedestrian they don't calm down.

I also wish they would lay off when it rains, I went for a walk through cromer connector to red hill last weekend and was horrified to see guys on bikes using all the power they had to "get out" of mud pits. It's totally cool that they ride there, but I just wish they had respect for the residents and the trail it self.

i have three who go past my place every weekend - always three of them, always flying, often off to oxford falls...
yes, it would be nicer if they also didn't ride in the rain or after the rain, but in all sports you get total ignorant people hey!

Entered off Lady Penryn
And I didn't see any signs

I was there a month or so ago and there was a sign on Lady Penryn where the chain has been put across the access next to the gate. Another one if you ride along the drive way and past the house at the left hand turn. More than likely if the moto riders didn't like them, they probably removed them.

I thought red hill was private property and any access was unauthorised and is classified as trespassing?

dangersean's picture

Put the chain and the sign up, but as far as I know were not legally allowed to do it.

In trying to stop all moto's (icluding the good boys on registered moto's) they also ended up blocking access for all other users including blondie on her horse. Dont matter though, we dont enter RH that way either...

@ Pivot - not private land mate, Crown land = all good for fun riding Smiling

there ARE signs up there - there is one by the gate at the entry and the other one is at the very first intersection if you go past the houses (you know, where it's flat fire trail to the left or if you go right you end up going down the hill) - they have been put there by the land and environment people and have been there for a couple of months...I rang the council about the chains across the gates but as its CROWn LAnd (and church land) they said they are not in control of it.
The residents were told they were allowed to put the chains across the entry at the gate to try and stop the trail bikes..pretty useless really as they just go up and get access through the carpark (which had to get blocked off due to drug deals, car stripping and burning etc - noice!)

anyone up for a hot lap of red hill then? lol

ps bloot - you were probably chatting too much to even notice the signs - they are quite small... Smiling

I think I could lay claim to being the most unobservant person here
I guess I'm the guy that they make signs ridiculously large and in your face for

I'll put my hand up for a hot lap at red hill with you, Blondie
But I'd break my bones well before I'd break any records

I went for a ride @ Red Hill yesterday Thursday evening entering from the reserve above Lady Penrhyn Drive, Beacon Hill. Around 20 new & very large signs have gone up reading "Private Property - Keep Out". I am pretty sure they went up on Wednesday. This affects an area which includes the BMX park as well as some of the single track leading to the main Red Hill area. Not quite sure what this means, but it is a bit of a worry. In any case, I will have to modify my route into Red Hill and stick to the fire trail when entering via the reserve. Does anybody know more?

I rode at redhill today and noticed all the new signs.

What I found strange was that at the entrance to the dirt jumps was one of the new signs saying "Private Property Keep Out" and then 20 meters down the track was another sign saying Crown Land.

Whats going on there??

someone is trying to psyche out the MB's with officialdom without the actualtiy to back it up.
