I thought I would do this as a comment and not the ride to try and not confuse things.

I will not be meeting you at Glenbrook but will be driving to Woodford and meeting you there. At this stage I will meet you at the train station but may change this to the trail head. I will be doing the ride with you but after the fun on the single track and seeing how I feel I will be riding the fire trail back to Woodford.

See you tomorrow.

Train arrives at Woodford around 9.30am
So say we meet at the trail head at 10am for those not on the train
Gives enough time to ride around there and get organised

someone has possibly already covered this on NobMob but check the trail is open first.

There has been some back burning in the Blue Mountains over the last week or so and the trail may be closed.

edit - ignore me, just found the mother thread of this one and the back burning has well and truly been covered

Will ride up to Woodford. Be at the Glenbrook entry gate at 7:30am if want to join me.

HeezaGeeza's picture

I have room for one rider and bike

Brian's picture

Just dusted off the Trance and definitely needs a new cassette. I just can't use the last two high gears so should still be ok.

Thanks for the ride today. That single track is simply awesome. I felt pretty good today even on the ride back up to Woodford. I also rode every hill which I was pretty happy about Smiling

hawkeye's picture

Sorry I couldn't make it today. Am feeling marginally better now - hopefully I'll be good enough for a gentle spin tomorrow arvo.

Had some chick in the lift on Thursday morning with the full runny nose and snuffles give me a good sneezing. I could feel the headcold stalking me by Friday afternoon, but was hoping a good night's sleep and vitamin C would knock it out. Alas, no.

I don't know why people come to work like that - do they feel a need to share? Arrgh! Smiling

Chuck's picture

Looks like a good ride and it sure was great weather for it. Sorry I pulled the pin, I too woke up with a head cold and by the time I got up to the Oaks Picnic area(the middle gate) I knew my day was over and I just had to ride the 10kms back home.

Hope to catch up next time.

My 1/3 effort.

Thanks guys, that was a fun ride, especially the singletrack.

Brian's picture

I just had a look and no wonder the single track is so fun. Its about 8km and drops about 190m Cool

hawkeye's picture

... why don't you! Smiling LOL!

Brian's picture

I'll be doing it again soon when I get my bike back so I'll be posting something up.

Andy Bloot's picture

you absolutely smashed my arse down and back
But after a sore night and tired morning I shaped up on todays ride in reasonable condition thankfully

And we were talking about the Oaks today
We reckon the best way to do it
Is park at the end of the single track
And just keep doing loops
Single track down, fire road back and repeat

I could think of worse ways to clock up the kays
Oh, that would be yesterday
I'm kidding - apart from the flogging
Was a good ride and always good to catch up with a few old heads
And meet a few new ones

Brian's picture

I was feeling pretty sore this morning. I think the down and back is much better then the up and back as you are feeling fresher for the fun bits.

Andy Bloot's picture

If it's 8k's down the single track
Say 8 k's back = 16 k's
16k's x 3 laps = 48km's

For mine, a much better way to ride 48k's
And no fart arsing around on trains etc

I might post this as a ride on BMORC sometime
Stay tuned

Brian's picture

Sounds like a plan Smiling

herzog's picture

Good plan indeed. And you get to avoid that bloody asphalt climb out from the causeway into town!

hawkeye's picture

Erm, so how do yo get home then, while missing the asphalt climb? Sorry, dumb question I know... Puzzled

herzog's picture

If you have a national park sticker you can drive to the little carpark at the end of the Singletrack. Leave the car there and do the loops of the ST.

When you do the one-way thing with the train, you've got to ride down and cross the causeway, and then you have this awful asphalt climb to get back into town and the train station carpark.

Andy Bloot's picture

And do your warm up on the fire road to the start of the single track
And then it's all breathless fun for the next 8 km's

3 of these and you've had a good workout
And more fun than the Oaks on it's own or an up and back

It's starting to develop as a ride one weekend

hawkeye's picture

... seed planted. Cool

Chuck's picture

We ride up to the Oaks gate and back on the single track at least once a week after work or when we can't think off anything else to ride. Some riders do laps during the week after work.

Up to the Helipad is good. A good workout riding up(add Bennetts Trail if you want more), fun fast section back down, then the single track. Oh, plus the Causeway out, that's great fun.
