Weve recently been doing laps of the fun 10min loop on the otherside of the Wakehurst Parkway.
We have been calling it the Nuerburg ring up till now..
Nice technical riding, Great at night.

You mean Bantry Bay?

Unlike the Manly Dam loop, this is National Park. One is only supposed to ride up and down the fire trail that runs parallel to Wakehurst Parkway. This rule I only found out about recently but IMHO is just plain dumb, and will be writing to NPWS about it I think. Given the trail is pretty much 100% over rocks there's no erosion problem or anything else so don't see their problem.

Anyhow, you can still ride up and down the fire trail, and at the North end turn west, past the Scout hut and out to a lookout, it's quiet nice there. There are some more fire trails round that way that I believe are legal.

Thanks for the info. I wondered why it wasnt documented anywhere..

Bruce did those amazine maps I keep going on about Red Hill and Manly Dam/Bantry Bay ...they have ALL the little trails on them and are great...and she goes on and on and on and on about them!!
available from bike shops - not BA though!!!

Yes, great maps they may be, but nothing you can't see online here (well - to a point) Sticking out tongue

Also - doesn't help that the BB loop is illegal at present, and is partly why we don't have a map of it. As I said, will be writing to NPWS about that.

Rob, that's a surprise! Where is the signage to say Bantry Bay is illegal?

I'm not being critical. I'm glad you're on top of all this because I believe available areas will be progressively closed if MTBs ride where they are banned. If Bantry Bay is off limits, how is anyone to know? How did you find out? What other local areas are banned?

Bruce - no signs - good point!

It all started with this:

I asked on MTB-OZ about this and they pointed out that ignorance is no defence. One should know when one is wondering into National Park, etc, etc.

It sucks severely, and there's a letter right here on my desk that's going to NPWS about this and other issues with their info and lack of signage.

My first reaction was, if they cared about the land they would know what people did there, and if they didn't want riders they would put up a sign. That said, they can't put up signs everywhere people decide to build secret sniggle if they don't know it's there, can they?

We need to keep NPWS on side and hopefully talk them into letting people like TerraCare maintain/build sniggle in parks. If you care - write to them here, but please be tactful. Land access is a privilege, not a right!
