I may be in - can you post your phone number so I can text either way please?
Nooooo... please just look at the profile (click the poster's name) - Chris has put it up there.
honestly...am I having a shocker of a day or what...
I think we may have two forum posts merging into one here. There appears to be a few takers for this. Hope we don't all pass out from heat stroke!
Yes, I am keen for a blast around the Dam at 6:00. See you there.
Liam.
I'm away Saturday night, we may not make it back in time. I'll make it if I can, but won't bother if I can't be there before six - don't wait on my account. I'll be in a silver vectra hatch/on a blue xtc.
Chris,
I am still a goer for this if you are.
Even if it is still going to be 30 degrees at that time in the evening. Hopefully we will get something like a seabreeze coming in, to take the edge off the heat. Take plenty of water. Don't forget sunscreen!!
Then, afterwards, it will be back for the cricket. A sensational evening if there ever was!
I'm still up for it.
6pm outside the hydrolics lab, I'll be in a silver Mazda tribute.
Be prepared bring plenty of fluid and rest stops will be taken.
Chris
Phew... just got back from the 6:30am start (yeah, had to do stuff after).
Well over 30C out there already and feeling hotter on that second lap.
Enjoy the sauna this eve
Yeah, 6:30 a.m, you guys are crazy!
We are already expecting a hot one today!! Still, with some good rest breaks along the way, it will be a fun ride. I am looking forward to this.
Had to unexpectedly hike 10k in thongs yesterday & have blistered my feet. Have a good one though!
The 6pm start really paid off.
Despite the heat of the day the conditions were perfect for an evening ride.
Thank's Liam & Pete for the ride.
On a more serious note, we came across a couple of locals on the Bantry bay loop who informed us of an impending application to Warringah council for the rezoning of the some of the land on the Bantry bay loop.
From what I can find on Warringah council's website this appears to be the item to go before the Warringah Council Independent Hearing and Assessment PanelMeeting (IHAP)Wednesday 24 January 2007
Lot 8, Lot 9 and Lot 10 Utyana Place, Frenchs Forest and
Lot 11 Bantry Bay Road, Frenchs Forest
Community title subdivision into one (1) community title lot
and fifteen (15) residential lots.
While not affecting the Dam lop itself, there may be the possibility that in the future the Bantry Bay add-on will disappear, I guess that's what some would call progress.

Yep, Chris pretty much explains it how it is. Most of the area we use on the far side of the Wakehurst Parkway would be dozed for development.
Is there anything we can do?
Looking on a map, the other side of Wakehurst Parkway is still part of the reserve, however, I do see lots marked on Utyana Place, Frenchs Forest:
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=lot+1...
Looks far from where we ride? I think not, check this:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=http://trail.motio...
Check this: http://www.warringah.nsw.gov.au/council_then/doc...
"Mapping Area 1 - Lots 8, 9, 10 and 11 (Utyana Place, Frenchs Forest)
This is vacant Crown land with good quality vegetation cover and adjoins Garigal National Park. A church group has recently requested that Council support a proposal to build a church on Lots 8, 9 and 10. The Department of Land and Water Conservation proposes alternative land uses of development, environmental protection and community purposes."
There's a newsletter here:

By the sound of it, they want to split/combine these lots into different combination. Trouble is, this will cut off the last part of the sniggle leading back to the fire trail, so another route back there will have to be found.
Boring as this is, does anyone feel like showing up at this meeting on Wed. night? Anyone know where objections to this can be sent (via Fax/Email at this stage)?
Most of the other track on the Bantry Bay side is in Garigal NP, so all the singletrack through there is illegal
Well, I suspected as much (about it's legality) but this is where things will get very, very contentious.
I mean, there's a trail there, and many, many people ride it. Are they doing damage? Are there signs stating that riding is not allowed? Do NP even care? Answers are: I hope not, no, and I suspect not ('cos if NP did care they would stick a sign up pronto, no doubt).
Ok, even though I love this bit of trail and ride it regularly, we really do to take a few things into consideration.
It is officially not a legal trail.
Are people doing damage? Not to the one singletack, no. But, have a look near the start of the trail at how many new singletracks are now running to join the main trail thanks to the new extension at the beginning. This would be seen as damage I would imagine ( new trails generally mean a few plants go by the wayside).
Also, this trail runs right by the rocks with the Aboriginal art, which is obviously a highly sensitive area.
If these new developements do cut off the end of this singletrack, where would people see the obvious new exit to be? Right over these Aboriginal carvings?
Should that be put to the attention of NP then I think that all of a sudden they would care a lot.
Rob, from what little we gleaned of the situation (which at the time was very little), I am not sure of objections being faxed, emailed, etc. The council meeting was probably the forum for this, as discussed on Wednesday night. Possibly telephoning the Manly Warringah council may be the way to go.
Unfortunately, work hours would prevent me getting to this meeting at that time on a Wednesday.
But I have visions of a pitch-fork and fire-torch wielding mob, turning up unannounced at the council chambers on Wednesday evening. There is the possibility that this may not be the best method for registering our complaint.
