When:
Sunday, 15 April, 2007 - 08:00
Duration:
2.5 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
If it's raining, I won't be there.
Ride Database Entry:
Red Hill
Details:

A conversation with a few on Tuesday has prompted me to post this one. This will be a day of fun, learning, spills and laughter. This ride will be more like a training day rather than a ride. For those of you out there that would like to practice on how to ride the more technical stuff, this is for you.
The pace will be slow.

Greg (aka Pikey) and Gazza hope to see you there.

Cya there
Evan

I'd like to join you guys again for some fun and instruction

KD's picture

would love to join for some handy tips and have not done a group ride in a long time and little bored of riding on my own

Andy Bloot's picture

I'll be there. Got some nice bruises from Monday so could do without high-fiving the rocks. By the way, does anyone have a spare set of flat pedals I could borrow for the day. Would be much appreciated- mine are OK but more for clips and feet bounce off easily. Buying some on ebay, but not arrive in time. See ya'll Sunday

evan's picture

Bring your bike and pads early to the ride and I'll show you how to fit them.

Evan

Little-Ditty's picture

Sorry Andy, I do not have any spare. But someone probably does. Even still, make sure you bring your clips and shoes, just in case.

Good!

See Ya's There!

Greg

christine's picture

thank you! I was driving to work today wondering about getting my bike done in time ...
you are a legend!!!

bradley hawkins's picture

will be there if my bike is fixed in time, should be ready tommorrow hopefully!!!!
Q: technical stuff- xc or dh or a bit of both Smiling

Little-Ditty's picture

Bradley,

Knowing the crew that ride here, this would be limited to the XC trails and whatever technical bits we will find along the way. But as the topic says, we will be tending to stop and look at any technical bits we come across. Thats the whole point. Plenty of drop offs and roll offs to keep us interested.

I doubt there is any DH bits on this ride. It's not really known for that. The XC trail at Red Hill is typically slow, hilly and windy.

Cheers.

bradley hawkins's picture

cool if my bike is ready,
hopefully tomorrow i'll see everyone there!!!!

sciflyer's picture

Count me in. It's been over 12 months since I last rode Red Hill and I'd like to get a better feel for the place and nail some of those drops. I'll be there but I don't know any of your faces so if you see a big guy on a VT3 yell out!

christine's picture

we will be the only group of people milling about up there i expect!!

MEEE Smiling

Dan's picture

Unfortunatley I am going to have pull out of this ride as the bike is still being serviced something to do with the front suspension o-rings leaking oil and BA needing to order parts for it. So it looks no riding for me this weekend i was really looking forward to this one }(

Bernd's picture

Don't like this, I wish I could help u. "Dave", I know it's Dan but what would I know.
Sorry I don't have a spare bike.
well next time,
Bernd

KD's picture

As Liams quest (Massive ride, which was great, I lost three Kg's) today didn't get me home at the predicted 1:30, I entered my home at 4:45 to find my wife assembling a uni-cycle (true, pictures to follow later) I asked the usual question what's that for. "This is what your riding from now on, that way you won't wander to far and for to long" I later found out that she cancelled a hair appointment this afternoon so we could go shopping for a new TV to replace our dead one.

Lesson learnt: Never miss a shopping date with your wife, even if you didn't know you had one.

[at least the uni-cycle has a seat.]

Greg :-0

Bernd's picture

I'm glad it has a seat!!!!

Ev, nice one organising the ride. Top work mate. Laughing out loud You done did good.

evan's picture

Big thanks to everyone who turned up. It was an awesome day.
Huge thanks to Gary and Liam for the great technical riding at the end.

We had one unfortunate even, we lost someone. Big apologies to Sam on the VT. Mind you he was kind enough to leave a note on Bernd's car.
The note reads:
"To NobMob Crew, I followed the wrong group and when I realised, it was too late to turn back and find you.
Really sorry if I caused any stress.
See you next time
Sam - VT"

Thanks Peter for heading back with me to do a search.

Liam - Working on the video hosting tomorrow. That way no quality is lost by posting to YouTube.

Cya soon
Evan
Bernd's picture

Yes, I like it,
sorry Sam, and thanks for the note!
Movies are on the way to Evan to put them somewhere.....
I did not take any pictures, ask Gazza. BTW Gazza, u r a Legend!!!!!
b*%&* good riding, well done.
Thanks everyone for a great day. As always, thanks to Christine for hanging out with us.
Bernd

I just love those types of rides! They are the best fun
Is Evan the first person to lose a person on a ride?!! I am sure he is!! Next time Steve, we will put you bang in the middle so there is no chance of you going off course!
Should have some good footage of that Mad Gazza riding down the cliff - good lord! However, it is great fun to see everyone do their stuff!
Big congratulations to Gazza and Liam who backed up from the Saturday epic and then rode an extra couple of hours with Evan after all the rest of us at the end...!!! And all with such a good attitude!
Great day thank you - oh! and thank you also evan for my brakes, and everyones patience while he fitted them...

MEE

Caro's picture

Little-Ditty's picture

Yes I turned up feeling okay, if a bit sore. But once I got going, I warmed up quickly and blasted away the remnants of the previous day's grind. I'm sure Gaz was the same. Energy was a bit lacking (for me at least), but otherwise everything else was as it should be. After all, this is Red Hill!! Can't go wrong there. Still, it was 22km of riding, right? A good hit out for sure.

Evan, I also recommend we do that ride again soon as practice makes perfect on those drops. And given what was attempted later in the arvo, some of our earlier riding could now be "improved" upon. So, see you in a month? Laughing out loud

(For those that missed it, Ev has a garden hose that he brings with him on rides now. So he hooked it up to the tap in the carpark. It made the bike cleaning at the end a cinch! Eye-wink In my opinion, one of the best ideas yet seen from the group.)

davis_jnr's picture

Just a word to the wise....washing of bikes with a hose attached to mains water will cop you a fine...keep an eye out for the water cops.

Matt's picture

Doesn't using a hose to clean your bike like that contravene water restrictions? You really don't need to hose and in these times shouldn't. Use a bucket of soapy water maybe once a week and at other times just brush off the crud, clean off your suspension staunchions/sliders/seals and wipe/lube the chain.

Naughty boys!

Stuart M's picture

avi files, I only get the sound and then the typical windoze visual randomizer?

Harry's picture

download vlc viewer - type into google first one up

Stuart M's picture

Instead of using a slow running hose directed only where you need it using probably 2 to 3 litres lets fill a 9 litre bucket and throw that over the beast instead, that complies doesn't it? What about we use our garden hose connected to mains pressure on the right days at the right times to fill our water tank. Then we can connect a "gernie" to the tank and wash what ever we like when ever we like. That IS legal, ring Sydney Water if you don't believe me.

Better still lets just shower for 1 minute less on the day we ride, that saves 9 litres and lets you do option 1 guilt free. While I'm on it how about I take my 4x4 to the local servo where some schmuck has set up a car wash and pay him $120 to wash it with his hose connected upto the tap that uses the same water supply that comes to my taps that I'm not allowed to use. Before you post back, not all of them recycle their water, certainly the newer ones do but the smaller operations send the water to a sediment arrestor then down the drain

Sorry, but the hypocracy of these restrictions really gets under my skin. How about we get a government that actually plans for the next decade rather than being concerned about making this years budget look good so they get voted in again, oh no now I'm getting political.

Why don't we all just use some common sense and an understanding that we share a limited resource and I bet we'll save more water than what is being saved now. Oh yeah, just remembered why, common sense ain't that common.

Which now just leaves the real question, should we be riding our precious trails when we are expecting them to wet and muddy?

Thus ends my political rant for the day

Which codec *did* you use to compress that? I didn't have the right one, and my computer is crammed full of garbage codecs...

Update: never mind, VLC worked. FMP4. Never seen that one.

evan's picture

My bad forgot to mention that these are all mpeg4 movies.
Quick search on the young persons internet using Google should find the correct codecs. These then should enable you to use windows media player etc.
As previously stated you will need the VLC player, it is a freebie. http://www.videolan.org/vlc

I will work on making the next lot more compatible.

Evan

Bruce's picture

nice work with the videos boys.

so is anyone ever going to keep up with Bruno on the technical stuff?

Matt's picture

Put a bucket in the shower or on the washing machine outflow and use that for bike washing. Then you are truly a very nice person indeed.

I agree Stuart that there's a lot of eejuts around wasting a lot of water but I can sleep well at night knowing I do my bit as far as I can. Legal and right aren't always the same thing but it's usually pretty clear what the right thing to do is.

No single raindrop believes they're responsible for the flood...
