When:
Thursday, 24 May, 2007 - 19:00
Duration:
1 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
I'll be there, no matter what the weather.
Ride Database Entry:
Terrey Hills / Duffys Forest
Meeting Point:

Terrey Hills Pub?

Details:

Thinking duck ponds and central for Thursday night (yes, a bye for touch) Craig suggested meeting at the pub and then having a drink there afterwards since the duck ponds is a shorter ride...
However! This does not mean that there will be no beer stop on the ride!

Keen to try this night ride experience and without going the route of building something - can anyone recomend a decent off the shelf option that's not going to break the bank?

Paul had a set of Ayup lights last week. Tiny tidy package. Uses lithium batteries so all fits on helmet.

they weren't that cheap -at Bike Addiction I got two single lights that you attach to your handlebars - they have been fine for me for the last year - however! I have to admit that the last couple of rides -well, since i borrowed Robs one week and Gaz's another week I am thinking about new ones, but in the meantime they are perfectly fine...
If you come along don't forget your beeeeer!!!
the moon is pretty at the moment too

Fancy meeting at the pub, with the excuse it adds a few K's..... oh, that was my idea....hehe.

As far as lights go I have a single Cateye light with 3xLEDs that does ok. In the group it is fine and I am comfortable that if I had to I could navigate a fire trail alone. Mind you this is if I HAD to. Think it was about $30.
Two would be quite reasonable.

So is it confirmed that we are meeting at the pub? Same pub as where we had drinks after the last night ride?

Terrey Hills Tavern is on Mona Vale Rd. It is the first left after Forest Way. It is where we had the after ride refreshments last week.

Please confirm?

Had a look at the ayup site and believe that's the way I'll be going - do you know if Paul had the helmet and handlebar set up or just helmet? Ay up recomend a set for each and have a nice looking package all inclusive

When Paul rode with us last Wednesday he was using a helmet mount. I'm not sure if he has a handlebar mount though.

I haven't ridden with a handlebar light before but I can say the headlight seems to work just fine. Light goes where you look which seems like a good idea to me Smiling

And thanks for the ride last night everyone! Good ride.

The helmet light is if you only get one, much better than just the handlebars although I'm sure some will disagree (Christine)

If the budget will stretch far enough then I would get both, actually thought the Ay-Up set had both included and 3 batteries. The benefit of the handlebar set is that the light source is lower which helps show up holes and rocks in front of the wheel much better than just the helmet. I have both and when I ride with just the helmet mount I really notice the difference.

My AYUP lights arrived yesterday.
I bought both the Helmet light and the Bar light.
I tried them for 5 minuets at Manly Dam last night after work at 10pm they were great, much more light than I was expecting.
Next time I finish work early and a ride is organised I would like to join you, sounds like a blast.

Ben, Stuart & Andrew for your comments, I guess that settles it Ay Up and the kit and hopefully in time for the Wed night ride.
