When:
Sunday, 23 January, 2011 - 08:00
Duration:
3 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
If it's raining, I won't be there.
Ride Database Entry:
Ourimbah State Forest
Meeting Point:

Enter via Red Hill Rd, Ourimbah State Forest. On your right will be 'TreeTops' for the kids and it's large-ish carpark. Carry on past there and the first small clearing which is were parking used to be, and is where the 'Browns' single track turns (you might see riders on your left here). Please do not park in this car park.

Parking and official trail head is now designated a further 350m or so up the road where there is a larger area. There's a CCOMTB notice board here by the trail entrance (on the left as you drive up the hill). Park up nose to curb or as directed.

oooo - would love to go to this.. It's going to be hard seeing these all past me by.
Perhaps I'll go just to collect my trophy from last year Smiling

GAZZA's picture

That's an early start! It's getting as bad as the Pro road racing calendar!
Might see you there!

Logan's picture

Racing starts at 9.30am doesnt it I think? Not to bad.

brakeburner's picture

love it!

Discodan's picture

It's far too early in the season for me too but it will be a good chance to benchmark how much I suck at this racing falarkle. It can only get better with training and practice.

Silly question: I went for a recce run a few weeks ago and the drop-off scared the shit out of me (just looking at it, I didn't try it). Do we have to do that in the race or is it legit to take the chicken run?

Logan's picture

Tbh I dont think its to bad, just got to get the weight over the back wheel.

Brian's picture

I think he means the chicken run, not the B line.

moose62's picture

YES U CAN TAKE THE CHICKEN RUN IN THE RACE,
A LOT OF RIDERS DO I M ONE OF THEM.
dONT FORGET ALL U SYDNEY PEOPLE WORKING BEE
ON SATURDAY 22ND

Logan's picture

Yeah I just presumed the Chicken Run was B Line anyway, A Line = Quickest in my world lol.

Brian's picture

I was thinking a line is between the trees and B line to the right on the boards.

Discodan's picture

Sounds like it's not going to kill me so I'll take a deep breath and have a go if I can get up there for a practice before the first round. Just to clarify, I'm assuming the line with the boards is the best for a newbie?

Logan's picture

The important bit with something like that is make sure you carry speed over the top and roll down, dont whatever you do put your brakes on at the top as that will mess it all up, get your weight over your back wheel and just let it roll in.

Personally I wouldnt practice before the race, I would go up there on your own or with a few mates a different day and practice it as you dont want to ruin your race by crashing and taking the alternative line is only going to cost you a few seconds so I wouldnt worry to much. By doing it before the race you put pressure on yourself on something which is already going to be challenging for you, do it under your own steam and yeah you will still have the adrenline pumping but it wont be as bad.

Yee ha!

Cant wait for a bit of Ourimbah madness.
I'm bringing a lunatic Italian guy - complete newbie to competitive MTB. Should be a perfect day.

See y'all there.

p.s. I tend to pre-jump the drop-off, so I'm in the air over the top, landing on the down slope. Means you cant change your mind! Brakes dont work mid-air!

Logan's picture

You gonna win A Grade mate?

I will be on the Yeti and driving my Red Mazda 3 MPS. Come and say Hi!

tate's picture

Will be going A grade, but doubt I'll win!
Looking to improve the bike handling skills in these races so will hopefully see a drop in lap times over the course of the year.

I've always wondered why there isn't a hot lap for ourimbah - even if it's one for long meadows and another for short.

Still have a thing about the magic carpet, never ridden it yet. I have a habit of letting the trail "win one" in order to appease the trail gods and keep me rubber side down. Time to get over it.

So how is magic carpet these days? Drop off ok, without any extra features brought on by the rain?

craked's picture

@ Alan I rode there 2 weeks ago and magic carpet seemed more difficult than I remembered but was still rideable.

moose62's picture

Hi, i rode it last weekend and yae the last drop is really steep
hopefully something made get done on saturday.
looking forwart to sunday.

woftt's picture

I know this is a XC thread but I heard the track work may include the DH final big right hander (the one with many entries). Can anybody confirm?

Logan's picture

Are on as well.

Should be competitive at the front!

Brian's picture

Quite a turn out

Supagav's picture

Well not with the likes of Ray and Anthony et al turning up, Im just going to try and hold on for as long a possible.....

Antsonline's picture

Gav - I thought I told you - I will not tolerate any hands on my seatpost, hanging onto my jersey pockets, or any type of bungee-cord business!
That includes tomorrow hill-reps too!
Eye-wink

With the next round of the nationals in a couple of weeks away, I reckon it will be a STACKED field.
I know of a few boys that have mentioned it that will show us all a clean pair of heels / cleats!

brakeburner's picture

went for a spin this morning and my fork has decided to seize up!! it's not even a year old??? bikes in the shop, so i'll be sitting this one out, good luck to all who are racing tomorrow, go hard and have fun.
see you at the next one.

Discodan's picture

Just what you don't need, I guess we'll see you at Rd 2 then.

My replacement RD hanger arrived last night and the mechanical gods have been kind as the bike is all ready to go. This will be the first ride on the new toy http://nobmob.com/node/19153 so here's hoping it does the job. This will also be my first XC race so learning all round. Hope to catch some of you in the morning

cheers
danny

Well the results confirm the thoughts, the top 5 in C grade were running the same times as the top 10 in B grade so could easily step up if they wanted
