This ride is tempting. Looks like a nice mix of trails. I will consult my black book and let you know.

Has come up in my schedule, so I will be there. Looks like a cool ride, everyone should be in it. I pray for good weather. I remember what happened at the last Terrey Hills ride I was on. Sticking out tongue See you all there.

Hi,

Will give it a crack.

The weather looks good until then. Could be a chilly start at 11C in the morning. Haven't done an epic in a while so it'll be good to see how it goes. Will have to re-engineer all the kit for a longer one its been a while since I have done that!

Looking forward to it(?)

Andrew

Hey guys,

I am wondering how tech oxford falls is?

I happily do Manly dam once or twice a week...but have never hit the falls.

random thoughts appreciated..
Anna

Rob's picture

Well... let's hope for some techie stuff Eye-wink

OK, Oxford Falls has a lot more technical than Manly Dam, but it's not much harder IMHO. For harder stuff goto Red Hill. This probably means nothing to you so have a look at some pics:

2007-05-26: Oxford Falls

Oxford Falls (Morgan Road)

If you're not scared by the 19th Hole 'B' line and the drops along by the golf course you'll probably be fine.

Little-Ditty's picture

There are some techy parts to Oxford Falls, but most of the more difficult parts have a chicken run, and those that don't... just walk it. There is no shame. I don't see much difference between 99% of Oxford Falls and Manly Dam.

You may need to get Jeff to confirm this, seeing he is hosting the ride. I personally am more than happy to wait for anyone that does not ride quickly through the techy parts. But your host may know more...

Sounds great! I'm really itching to get out for a ride.

What sort of distance are you expecting to cover?

Gary's picture

Sounds like a great ride.

petulance's picture

but I'm a bit wary of the "but of a fairly advanced level both technically and physically".

What kind of distance will be covered?

Heckler's picture

Pleasure or Pain is up to you !! Distance will be at a guess 30k's and in the words
of "Arnold Swartzinegger" we leave no-one behind, but we do egg them on and it will be fun.
p.s. AKK I think you will be fine.

akk's picture

Thanks for the comments.

I'm still concerned about how techy the ride is......but you never know unless you go right?

I will ride at the back of the group.....so I don't suddenly brake at the sight of a drop off and cause major damage to all those riding behind..

still slightly apprehensive...but see you all tomoz.

Don't know if I can make as my brother just rocked in from England. If I'm not there don't wait for me. Have a good one

Andrew

Rob's picture

What sort of excuse it that. Bring him along - he'll be awake at 5am anyhow Eye-wink

petulance's picture

Hi Anna,

If you do Manly Dam once or twice a week than you should be fine with Oxford Falls. I did Oxford Falls last week (can't remember which bits but it included the XC loop) and I did find it harder than Manly Dam but only because I didn't know the trail and I'm pretty bad at choosing the proper lines on trails I haven't ridden before.

See you there tomorrow.

I've got nothing planned for Sunday morning,so count me in.

What route do you have planned from Terrey Hills to Oxford Falls and then Cascades.

Paul

evan's picture

Last minute notice but I should be there Smiling

Rob's picture

Hmmmm... trails. Will try to be there and warm up for ride with the GF later Eye-wink

ar_junkie's picture

I'll be there... depending on total ride time, may have to bail mid trails...
Rob - were you not already riding this one?

lorrie's picture

I can't make it today. Doh!!! But my brother left his monutain bike (and its a specialized stumpy too ditty!!) In England so its a cough cough (road ride) today. Feels weird not being out on the mountain bike this weekend but I will have to wait for this wednesday's night ride.

Lorrie

Rob's picture

... was having second thoughts and at one point on Sat wasn't going to come. OOps Eye-wink

akk's picture

apologies....

Hope everyone had a good ride, despite the split and various people having to run off early. Personally it was great for me, although am totally embarrassed by being pushed (literally) up Cooyong Rd by Shaun. Oh dear!

Anyhow, here's the profile. Makes a nice loop, eh?

http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/episode/2907841

The trail south of Mona Vale road is named, 'Caleyi Trail' on the topo map. Although it stops short of Deep Creek, so the last 500m or so is not on any map. That said, the trail along by Deep Creek isn't marked either and has been in use for years.

It was a great day out! Beautiful weather, relatively dry trails and some good hills... what more could you ask for?
Still can't believe that it was only 30kms... we need to hit it in one go next time.

Anna - ya missed a goodie!

The BIG THANKS goes out to Jeff for hosting a cool ride today. I really enjoyed it. This ride had a bit of everything, and turned out to be great skills practice for Canberra and Coffs.

I love looking at the first 1/4 of the MB elevation chart. The downhill part at the start of Oxford Falls is a beautiful sight. Look at the way it plunges almost straight down. Is there a better sight in mountain biking? I can't wait to do that again. Laughing out loud "Up and at them!"

And not a bike / equipment failure in sight. Awesome work everyone. Good riding was on display today.

evan's picture

Cheers for a top day Jeff. At least you didn't have to help fix my bike this week.

Jeff,

Thanks for a good ride and a good workout - as posted it was advanced both technically and physically.

16 starters, including someone coming home from a big night out was a good turnout.

I loved the new trails althought the secret trail bested me. We must be getting close to a fully rideable mega-loop.

Paul

petulance's picture

Cheers to Jeff for organising the ride.

And big thanks to Evan and Liam for hanging out the back with me on the last bit of singletrack near St Ives. I was pretty much a goner even before that stage (I must grab a bag of snakes before my next ride).

The 60km road ride I did the day before was a doodle compared to this.

Tat

christine's picture

thank you - you kept your reputation up Jeff - hike a bike, great views and differnt tracks! I had a ball - it was also good because everyone moved about so all the 'roid boys didn't speed off into the distance
By the way...after all the conversations about food, who would have thought you were all so super healthy with your lunches at the shops!!!

MEEE Smiling

ps when i went down oxford falls road on my way home i got up to 61ks - i said so to my mum who said..goodness me, that's fast - as fast as a car - she paused and then said...were you going down the hill?...!!!
true!
