Does Steve reply to the email? I'm new to this & haven't heard back from him. I also don't have a 'race number' yet...

andyfev's picture

I registered for 2 events last year via email and both times I had no reply but rest assured he had all my details on race day! They will issue you with your own race number and plate on the day which you'll keep for the whole year unless you choose not to do anymore events.

andyfev's picture

Looking forward to this opener and to improve on last years 2 events I did last year. Best I could manage was 15th in grade C... Fingers crossed for a good result Eye-wink

Brian's picture

I'm having a crack at B grade this year to get the extra distance for training

chrischris's picture

I was considering the same Brian. I've signed up for 'C' grade, being my first race, but I might jump ship with you after round 1. I'm not looking to win! Just to get some competitive km's under my belt. Should be great fun! (But not my ankle surgery booked for the next day) Sad

andyfev's picture

Good luck in B grade fellas C grade is definitely my limit.

@chrischris hope the surgery goes well

chrischris's picture

Really minor surgery, but, off for at least 2 weeks... & just 'Chris' is fine. The username chris was already taken, and I couldn't think of anything more original.

Maybe I could change it something else? Like... 'BGradeFail' Smiling

I'm off to the garage to change tires to 'road trainer' mode. Way too much rain around today to hit the trails tomorrow.

marto71's picture

is this a 3 hr race, and what grades do what laps, after living back in the hunter for 2 years and putting on a crapload of weight, i might just renew my membership and go racing this year

Brian's picture

No it isn't. The grade determines how long and this is normally set on the day so when you turn up you can choose.

marto71's picture

ok sweet thanks brian, i am now in

It's nice to see everyone keen to line up for the first HMBA race for the year. Traditionally, there has always been a crowd for the first race, so I would urge everyone to "pre-register" as Brian has suggested - this allows me to put all the details in the computer so that when you get there you can jump the queue, cross your name off the pre-registered list, hand over your money and you are good to go.

To answer Chris's question - I normally do answer all the emails but often it's not until the night before when I go through and prepare for the race. If I see your email come in earlier and you have questions or I need more info from you, I will generally reply fairly quickly. Having said that, I don't recall seeing an email from you Chris. I shall send you a PM to clarify.

Soemthing to note - after the first race I will be handing the pointscore and race registration over to somoeone else - you'll be able to check the club website for the contact deals.

Cheers,
Steven

Email sent Smiling

For all of you deciding to step up to B grade, you won't be coming last.

I'm returning from a few years out of racing and will be riding B grade based purely on distance. Definitely won't be at the pointy end of the field.

I'll have the remainder of the HMBA calendar published in the next few days as well.

Antsonline's picture

Hey guys (HMBA guys specifically) - a question about the course.
Will you be trialling the proposed XCO course for the National Round?
I assume that you are needing to cut the loop down to about 6km for the nationals, and wondered if you were going to 'pre-race' it and give locals a chance to ride it in advance?
I only ask this as I know CORC are running a similar event, this very weekend, on the proposed nationals track at Stromlo.

Sorry for the detailed question, but hope you can help.

Steven P's picture

Ants, I would say definitely not for this weekends race. We have a committee meeting tonight (Monday) so we might have further info after that.

GAZZA's picture

I think Nick Both and I are going up to race. Get yourself there.
I hav'nt ridden there in a while so it would be good at least to get a feel for the track under race speeds even if it isn't the exact course that's being used in the National round.

Antsonline's picture

Sounds good.
Nick is going great at the moment, but my crashing on the weekend meant I couldnt really give him a race - or even try to stay close to him.

I am kinda tempted to go to Canberra for the CORC race on the Stromlo course, but think I may stay at home and race this one....

Its a lovely position to be in - too many races!

Brian's picture

GAZZA, what grade will you be racing?

GAZZA's picture

I've raced four times this year and have every week for the next six or more booked out with racing, two a week if I get my ass into gear and do Heffron!
Bri, B grade for me mate. What about yourself?

Brian's picture

B grade for me this year Smiling

GAZZA's picture

Look forwward to a race with you Bri!
@ Ants, I forgot to say that i'm at Bothy's on Saturday arvo for a bbq, Bribes are than welcome for me to ply him with lots of strong alcohol! Eye-wink

chrischris's picture

The forcast isn't looking too crash hot. If the day is or isn't cancelled, where is the info posted?

I.e. where is the best place for the latest updates? HMBA web page? Facebook?

Steven P's picture

If we have to cancel, there will be a post on the front page of the club website - www.hmba.asn.au

Brian's picture

We might be lucky with the weather Smiling

Antsonline's picture

although I am slightly nervous, as I wont have my proper bike, and will be on small wheels, 5" of travel and a 720 riser bar!
Racing the play-bike is never pretty.

Brian's picture

I just fitted my riser bars back on the Cannondale. I also fitted 2.25 tyres so with 5.5" travel front and rear it's going to be awesome.

I'm actually just treating the club races this year as a means of more training but its going to be fun for sure.

Dicko's picture

Anyone actually been out to the track to see how it's holding up with the rain this week ?

forecast looks good for today / tomorrow to dry things up with more rain coming on the weekend. Let's hope Awaba stays in that rain shadow.

chrischris's picture

Awaba does tend to get slightly more than my place, but my lawn is dry. I haven't seen the track. Let's hope it stays that way!

Lenny_GTA's picture

Lot of rain when I drove through the area today. the trails usually aren't the issue, the road is.

I'll check with the course setter and trail crew tomorrow and let you know.

I would say though, as long as it doesn't bucket down until sunday we should be fine.

Brian's picture

It's looking a lot more promising Smiling

Antsonline's picture

as I really want a ride. I also now have the race bike back. Excellent / Incredible service from SRAM has meant it will be big wheels for me!

tate's picture

i see you've finally got yourself a profile pic!

has your hair grown since i last saw you, and have you got your man boobs back??

GAZZA's picture

You should know that all the blokes dress like that in the Eastern Suburbs!

Fruitman's picture

Hi guys,

Thinking of coming along to the XC Race Rd 1.

How many divisions are there? I'm pretty new to MB and I am not real quick.

How competitive are the lower divisions?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers.

Antsonline's picture

Fruitman - you'll love it. All abilities, with all sorts of bikes and kit show up. At the front its mad fast, and it gets more relaxed as you go back. But....no matter how far back you go, I'm sure that after riding with someone for an hour or so, you'll still try the sprint finish - no matter how relaxed you are!
Come along and have a race, its great fun and a good vibe and certainly not the World Champs! Eye-wink

andyfev's picture

Im out, just got back from a days skirmish and I'm absolutely spent Eye-wink little disappointed as I reckon the track is going to be dry enough to race

Enjoy the event guys

Hop fiend's picture

website also says to check early in the morning just in case of any big overnight showers

Antsonline's picture

Its been postponed till next week...

With a track inspection showing 70% of the track either under water, having rivers run along it or puddles, we have decided to re-schedule the first round to next weekend.

XC round 1 will now run on SUNDAY 5TH FEB.

chrischris's picture

I have ankle surgery on Monday, so I'm not wasting a day. I'm off to the Ourimbah ride day.

jaseh's picture

Was really looking forward to this. Oh well, next week it is. More time to train as I'll be on nightshift.

andyfev's picture

I'm back in... I'm probably the only one happy about the race being postponed.

@ Chris, best of luck with the ankle surgery hope you're back on the bike in no time Eye-wink
