IMPORTANT Shimano MTB Grand Prix Round 2 update: change of venue

This weekend we will be racing at Awaba instead of Mt Annan! This decision doesn't come lightly but with the current weather forecast it is very unlikely that we will be allowed to use the tracks at The Australian Botanic Garden Mt Annan due to their wet weather policy. Coastal showers are forecast meaning chances are high that Mt Annan gets a few showers leading up to the race. The Awaba tracks can handle a few showers with ease and there is also less amount of rainfall forecast for that region.

We hope that you understand our decision but we are in a tricky position and this way we can guarantee you a race.

If you have entered already all you need to do is drive to Awaba instead of Mt Annan. The tracks there are in awesome shape and the Hunter MTB Association, the local club looking after the track, is looking forward to hosting us there.

Round 3 is now scheduled to be at Mt Annan on August 25, the original date for the Awaba race.

We thank you for racing with us and are looking forward to a great race this Saturday at Awaba.

just seen on farcebook they've moved the venue due to concerns about bad weather!

Pete B's picture

Mmmmmmm... interesting!

Multiple climbs of the camelback is going to take its toll.

Lenny_GTA's picture

Hopefully the rain forecast for the end of the week doesn't cause issues up here.

Logan's picture

If the rain is heavy. Yeah the multiple climbs of Camelback is gonna hurt.

Did anyone do the Choc foot event at Awaba in December 2011? The lap times posted look like a blue loop lap to me so surely it'll follow a similar route. It would destroy the solo riders if camel back was on the agenda each and every lap...

Awaba was very damp last weekend so tyre choice will be an issue. Just turning the wheels was hard after a few laps with all the dirt sticking to the treads adding kilos!

Brian's picture

I did the choccy foot in December and it was the full red lap with camelback included

andyfev's picture

Ahhh! you guys were quick Eye-wink

Did the juniors do a short loop? There times are as low as 25 mins per lap!!

Brian's picture

Yeah, the juniors do a shorter lap

Anyone in a pair / looking for a partner?
With a new bike comes new enthusiasm. I've ridden a bunch of 24's in teams / the working week 8hr series in a pair, and am keen on putting some miles down on this cool track

cheers

GAZZA's picture

And the course was in great nick.
I can't see it being the same 24hrs later?? Sad

There was a small shower early this morning, but it's been sunny all day up here so far.

Tomorrows potential precipitation will be key. I won't be racing - but I'll be at the build day Sunday morning at 7.30.

Logan's picture

Prolly make it nice and tacky, so we will see what happens tomorrow.

Who is doing what Cat? 01 are you doing 4 Hour Solo?

Brian's picture

What are you doing Andy?

GAZZA's picture

I'll be going for that category if it doesn't pee down before Saturday!

Logan's picture

Having just had the bike completely serviced, I am however not keen to trash it again quickly.

Steve 01's picture

For me,should be fun

GAZZA's picture

It's raining as much up there as it is in Sydney at the moment! Sad

Lenny_GTA's picture

Only drizzle so far up here.

Pete B's picture

11.6mm of rain over night, it's going to be a muddy one!

Logan's picture

I wont be there with all this rain, not riding in the mud again.

Lenny_GTA's picture

12mm over night at Awaba (well the cooranbong weather station), but nothing since 9am.

Contrast that to Glenrock not far away, 14mm over night and a further 12mm since 9am.

Seems the rain has been going around awaba today, but set in over newcastle. Looks grim out my window, but the radar looks fine west of the lake.

If I was a betting man I would say the track will be fine other than a few wet patches.

Sounds good.

Type your number into the search bar to save you trawling through over 1000 images! I did think it was a little off putting on the first lap with all the flashes going off but it was worth it when there are several decent pics of each rider. I now think it should be the same at all the big events Smiling

ChopStiR's picture

Does anyone remember my race number? Jks

Brian's picture

@ChopStiR, it's 634
