Ever wanted to wow your significant other with some shots of you riding?
When you last climbed that steep boulder did you ever wish that someone had a camera ready?
Ever wanted to get some action shots of some other riders without having worry about slowing the group?

On Saturday I'm planning to have a photography day at Red Hill. I want to get some action and artistic shots, not just of others but of me too.

This will NOT be a ride where we continuously ride the track. THe pace will be similar to the Red hill ride when about 60 people turned up. Or slower. If we see something interesting, we will stop, get the cameras out, and ride it a few times to make sure that we have good shots of every person.
Near sunset, we could get some great shots at picnic point.
Bring an SLR if you like -I'll be bringing mine. You can take leave the camera with the group if we shoot you splashing through a deep puddle)

Hmm, I just saw " Please be as specific as you can be about what trails you are going to ride, at what pace, etc. If this isn't open to all comers, please explain who you'd like to come (XC elites? DH heros?) and why (you're training for a big race? where you're going isn't suitable for newbies?)."

WEll, unfortunately, the requirements for this ride are rather strict. You must be at least 5'8. You must be NO MORE than a size 8. No tattoos whatsoever. No scars. Ear piercings only.
You must come CLEAN FACED for the make up artist. Clothes must be on hangers. Only one escort permitted.

Just kidding Smiling Everyone is welcome, nomatter what bike you have, or what camera you have.

However, we need at least 3 people (including me) to make this work. If 2 other people haven't signed up by saturday morning, I will make this a slow ride around red hill to show some people the trails there.

If you can't make it at the time I've put down, but are still interested, PLEASE let me know.

You might want to bring a flashlight, since we will be riding back to the cars after sunset. Dedicated bike lights are unnecessary if you don't have them -I'll be bringing gaffa tape Eye-wink

We will definately ride 4wd folly and Drop zone. If any of you can dirt jump, we'll hit the dirt jumps too. I'd also love to get a shot of some people riding in that moonscape-like area near the jumps.

Who's in?
arpit, Little-Ditty, ScottM, leon barclay.old, Mr Lights, HeezaGeeza, Joe7788 (7 riders)

hey if you think i could keep up walking to each location (still off the wheels due to broken collarbone)i would love to shoot some video as well, let me know if you think i wont be to much bother,i walked up the wakehurst side of red hill 3 weeks ago with a sling to shoot some vid and was reasonably quick

i would be happy to take some stills with other peoples gear (you would have to carry it there but am happy to do that also)

Much better timing for me will bring the single speed and the D80.

Amazingly i've never been to Red Hill, at least not on my bike, as much as i've wanted to.
Sounds like fun, and might bring my Lumix TZ3 to see how it fairs at action. I'm in (weather pending).
...will we be going anywhere near the (in)famous DJ's or are they still going to be out-of-bounds during their legalisation (which i presume is still going)?

More people! Awesome! Smiling We will indeed go to the dirt jumps (provided that one of us is skilled enough to actually ride them!)
I have no idea what is happening re. legalisation, but there should be no reason why we can't use the area. It is, after all, crown land. It is the construction of the jumps which is illegal, not the riding of them.

Actually last i heard the DJ's were fenced off as they are in the process of (possibly) being legalised, and wanted to restrict the use of them during this period. They may have already been secured, or it might have all gone belly up, i don't know. Will do a little more research and get back to you.

BTW i have no DJ experience, though would like some. Smiling

We're trying to get together all the land-owners together for a face to face meeting in the next couple of weeks. Matt & Dale have been doing a very good job with this one.

christine's picture

no fence at the jumps and the boys have been working on them like mad every weekend ... if you guys can't jump it's well worth popping by in the afternoons as they are just great to watch - would be excellent for both photography and video as they do all the tricks - i love it! Lucky for me i live close by and walk the dogs through there!!

MEEE Smiling

I may be interested in this. But I am not sure about the time factor. I would be interested to doing some faster riding, at least for some of the time. Would anyone want to scoot off for an hour and do some faster riding, with the view to rejoining later on? Just an idea. (And, sorry if I am usurping the post.)

Arpit, I think 3 hours is very optimistic if you are wanting to do the "standard tour". I think this ride would more likely take 5 hours. Speaking from experience, playtime is usually like that. Smiling

Excellent, I'm in.

I started putting together a video of me riding at Red Hill, but it was getting pretty annoying putting the camera down, riding off and then returning into the shot. This will be heaps easier!

I haven't been on the bike in about 6 weeks, so I can't wait.

arpit's picture

Liam, you make a good point. However, I fear that if I officially make the ride 5 hours, fewer people will attend.
In accordance with your advice, I myself will be at the Lady Penrhyn Drive entrance 2 hours before the scheduled time. If anyone wishes to join me, we can either ride for 2 hours or do a bit more shooting. WE will meet upwith the others at the specified time. I'm totally cool with people joining us for a bit, then getting bored and going for a proper ride.

Joe7788's picture

Sounds great I'm in, just bought a new bike and SLR, so this will be good.

HeezaGeeza's picture

Keen to join up at the earlier time (11.00am I presume) if OK. Been looking to get some shots up there for a while.

arpit's picture

Great. I'll see you guys tomorrow. I'll be at the carpark at 11am and at 1pm. Give me a call if you are running late, so I know to wait for you.
