Holy grail of saddles anyone?

Hey all,

Having experienced the old Johnny Cash special on more than one bad saddle choice in the past I thought I'd throw it out there to see who swears by what for their cheek comfort over long distances.

Your responses may affect my next choice of purchase....

Happiness is a warm shock.

I've used many saddles over the last 20 years, from original brooks leather, most of the selle italia range, and a few others.

I've settled on the specialised body geometry series as they are scientifically designed to support your sit bones, available in 3 widths, and have the appropriate (scientifically determined) cut aways for blood flow and nerve protection.

You go into a specialised dealer, sit on a slow-release foam pad, and get the width of your sit bones, and this determines the fit of your saddle. Apparently the size of your bum is not a direct correlation to your pelvis width.

Ive got 'Rival' MTB saddles on my mtb's, with titanium railed version on my race bike; and an Alias on my road bike.
The Rival steel frame has 'plusher' foam and is great for all day trailriding. The rival ti frame saddle has slightly firmer and lighter foam, and is still comfortable over decent distance (I should give a ride report after the Scott 24 Smiling

The Alias is quite firm but still comfortable as it is designed to support you on the sit bones with secondary support over the rest of the area.

The fizik range gets good reports too, and WTB rocket (I think) is popular too.

Yeah, the Rush came with a Fizik Nisene on which I promptly bent the rails while OTB (Off The Back would you believe) at the Dam. I replaced it with a Gobi Ti which has lasted well and I find very comfy.

Recently I decided to try a Selle Italia SLR XC. Hmmmm... this felt rather hard in comparison on the first ride but is either softening up or my delicate derriere is getting used to it.

If anyone wants one, i've a brand new one, used once. It's a nice seat, but because it's got square rails, it don't fit too good on my crank bros seatpost (bad design).
