Just got this of Scratchy at farkin, It closes today but a quick email would be appreciated

Email: [email protected] to tell her that you want legal MTB trails.

Just a line or two, they have a draft plan out that can be viewed here:

http://www.tredwell.com.au/Peel%20Region%20Trail...

Here is "thebofh" feedback feel free to cut and paste, as long as you help get us legal trails we don't care.
1a To what extent do you support the overall directions described in the Master Plan? Please
indicate with an X.

1b What do you like about the Draft Master Plan?
I like that Mountain Biking has been taken seriously as a recreational activity, especially Downhill Mountain Biking, and has been given a relatively high priority. There are many riders who are willing to give up a lot of personal time to work with the authorities to create a world class mountain bike precinct at Dwellingup.

1c What improvements would you add to the Draft Master Plan?

• A provision for a Bike Trials park in Dwellingup – it is already used as a natural Trials riding area by many Perth riders.
o Trials is a low-impact, low cost and low resource hungry discipline. Many of the features could be built using unwanted material, such as logs and rocks, taken from construction of other trails, that would otherwise have to be removed.

• A purpose built, rider managed, Freeride park in Dwelllingup in addition to the Downhill trails.
o This park would have DEC approved wooden Technical Trail Features, (TTF), such as skinnies, drops, ladder bridges, see saws and jumps/gaps.

• A Dirt Jump park for dual Mountain Bike and BMX use, this would also be a rider managed resource with material support from DEC and local authorities.
o A properly constructed Dirt Jump park can last many years with proper regular maintenance. It can also be levelled and reconfigured over a short period of time. It can be built on waste land as all it needs is dirt and water.
o There are many great success stories on the Jay Hoots website, http://www.hoots.ca/skills_parks/stories/, that can be used as inspiration for similar facilities in WA.

Either way, I wrote this:

Hi Julie,

I hear you are performing some sort of planning for mountain bike trails and facilities in WA? Whilst I live in Sydney just wanted to show support for any off road cycling trails, jump parks, etc. that are planned in WA.

This is relevant as my girlfriend and I visited WA last year and whilst there hired bikes (we left ours at home). We did some riding in the Margaret River area (on the rails to trails network if I recall) and although this was nice, some purpose built single trail would be nice. Downhill areas, jump parks, etc. are also very welcome additions and a draw card for riders of all disciplines.

I know we will visit WA again, but having purpose built trails to ride would add weight to this being sooner, rather than later. We almost always plan trips around cycling and other outdoor pursuits, as do many other people we know so am sure any infrastructure you build will be a boon to tourists and locals alike.

Sincerely,

Robin Rainton
