Anyone using one of these pacific bike carriers?

Hi there,

We have been looking around for a decent bike tow bar mounted bike rack and willing to spend up to $200. We have been seeing these racks at quite a few bike shops and they appear to be constructed well and are not too pricey.

My main concern is the velcro straps coming undone or wearing out over time and then not holding the bikes as well. Has anyone used one of these racks and could odder an opinion?

Also at the same time could anyone offer any other suggestions for a carrier around that price?

I don't know about the pacific one your talking about but I'm very happy with my Q Spear, it takes about 1 minute to fit or remove from the car and can take any bike regarding of the frame style. Torpedo7 also sell the exact same rack with their labeling and are on special now for $99. http://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/T7CATNN48 It must be your lucky day.
If you do purchase one from T7 follow the link from this site as it will then benefit this site.
Cheers John.

Just be careful with the T7 rack as it tends to spin around on your tow ball even when tightened. I have to attach straps to my roof racks to prevent it from moving too much when carry bikes.
BWOAR!

We sell those at work. A Malvern Star Transrack. They sell very well and the feedback is great.

I saw the malvern star rack also which is slightly different to the pacific. Do you sell the Pacific brand? any issues with them?

Hi Snwbrd,

Yep, I've had one of the 4 bike frame mount ones for 6 months. Very easy and quick to attach to the car, just slots into the bracket on the tow bar. The velcro straps are great, no issues with wear and the are suitable for carbon frames. I also use a velcro strap to hold the front wheel to the rack, this stops the front wheel spinning and the bike swinging. For multiple bikes I strap them together with a tie-down otherwise they bang together. The only issue has been slight twisting in corners but that was fixed once I got the ball tight enough.

Great stuff! thank you for taking the time to reply.

Currently the best prices I have seen for the 3 bike carrier is on ebay $109 + $33 postage but I really prefer to support local bike shops. The cheapest I have seen them in a bike shop is $179 does anyone know where I may be able to get a better price?

i have one of the pacific racks, holds 4 bikes, have carried 3 before woth no problems, velcro straps are very good, have never come loose at all, i alternate the positions so as not to use the same strap everytime (i use the bottom 3 closest to car, dont use the end one). I have had it for a few yrs now with no issues.
recently have started using the roof mounted carrier more so its not getting much use, i also bought the extra tow bar mount thing (about $50) so both cars have one ready to go, so i can carry the bike on any car. It has 2 x lock mount things (i put 2 x padlocks on them) so it cant be easily stolen off the car when you are out riding.

I got mine at Phantom at Tahmoor. On their website they have them for $140.

Q Spear makes the original version of the bike rack that T7 now rips off. It is far better, more stable and more secure in every way. It doesn't cost much more either.

I have a Q Spear and my mate has the T7 equivalent. Quite simply, it is not equivalent, it is a shameless second rate rip off of a really great product.

I second the good things to say about the Q-spear. Brilliant, simple and fast to use. Don't be put off by it's simple design, it's a winner.
