Just wondering if anyone knows whether the dam is open again?
Cheers.

Not yet

Irregardless I'd give it at least a week of dry weather.

It was still a Zoo yesterday

Guys n girls really we ought be smart and not use the dam in wet weather.
It does bother me, and I am sure I speak for many others, when people ride the dam when a) its closed and b) its obviously wet.

If we want to keep this great ride sustainable, we should not ride it when closed or wet and also discourage others from doing so.

Thanks
Craig

agree craig!

The question should not be is it open or is it closed? it should really be is it still wet am I going to do more damage by riding on it???

From our experience it always takes a few days of warm (20C) weather for the dam to dry out. Check out the weather page for details of when it last rained.

Given that soo many riders ride the dam and the trail erosion that can happen becuase of this we must "tow the line" and make sure that others don't ride the dam when its wet and cause any unnecessary trail erosion.

I would have to assume that the ranger in charge of the Manly is open/closed email would know best.

Any updates on trail condition? A couple of the lads had a night ride in mind for the Dam tonight, wonder if it is up to it.

I got an official 'trail open' email from the rangers a few days ago. Haven't been up there though. Reckon it will still be reasonably wet in all the usual places at the top.

It's officially open but realistically very wet.

Even the flat bits still have puddles on them, let alone the holes that usually fill with water...

It rained reasonably hard last night in Manly Vale too. How much fell on the Dam who knows?

My house backs onto the trail and we got a pretty good drenching last night.

I take it the dam is still closed? It's currently raining in brookvale and was thinking of going for a quick lap tomorrow.

If the dam is closed, is there anywhere else I can ride on the beaches that is wet weather friendly?

The Dam is farkin trashed!!! Can't believe how many tools were out yesterday still riding it in the state that it's in.

It threw it down all Saturday arvo and a fair bit of Sunday lunch in Manly vale. Currently there's absolutley no way the trail is rideable.

Only 3 days in the last two weeks without rain would surely suggest it is too wet to even think about the dam.

Muvro your best bets are duck Holes and Centre track at Terry Hills but I would suggest even they would not be worth riding for atleast another three or four days, and thats assuming the rain stops.

Sorry

Cool, thanks for that guys, so please excuse my ignorance.

I'm only new to this. Only ridden the dam loop once (and love it). I only just got my new (to me) bike going and am so keen to get out and use it. Since I didn't have to go into work tomorrow (family funeral) I thought I'd get out amongst it.

Last time I rode a mountain bike on dirt was about 15yrs ago. So still learning the ins and outs of the MTB etiquette (mind the spelling) regarding track usage etc. Personally I love getting muddy, but if it's to the detrement of the track I'll avoid it. Especially if it's going to agrivate the tree huggers and give them ammunition and an excuse to try and shut us down.

I emailed that ranger link to receive emails regarding the dam's situation. But I haven't gotten one email yet....

What about the old 4WD track from Morgan rd to Deep Creek? Is that still around or has it over grown?

Would that be a goer?

If you're refering to main fire road from Morgan Rd and down ( and I'm assuming you are )then yep, that'd be a goer.

Plus your keeping the NPWS happy as that's the only place where we're allowed to ride anyways!

muvro's picture

Yeah, that's the one.

I'm probably going to do that one as my next ride. Give my egerness a hit, in waiting for the dam to dry up.

I didn't end up going for a ride. Just went for a bush walk instead. Was wet enough walking. hahah

Cheers
