Garmin Maps

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hi Guys,

I went ahead & purchased the Garmin edge 800. Would love some advice on what type of maps I need to download? what brand? & where to get them from? I do most of my mountain biking in W.A. Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

Dave.

SpyBike GPS Tracker

You can keep track of the bike's location via Integrated Trackers' website, and then relay its location to the police. If you forgot to arm the unit before your bike was stolen, you can remotely activate it by sending an SMS message. It checks its messages automatically every six hours, so it will begin tracking when it gets your message.

Fits inside the steerer and is supposedly difficult to remove.

ANT+ Heart rate straps. Synch to 2 devices simultaneously?

Question for those knowledgeable on the matter....

I'm thinking of getting something like a Polar HRM. I'm also going through the new phone process and have noticed many of the Sony xperia phones have ANT+ support for HRM straps.

So the question is, can I have the strap synched to the HRM and the phone simultaneously so I can have the display on the HRM on the wrist/bars and the phone tucked away safely in the camelback running strava? Are the straps Tx only or do they communicate like a bluetooth device?

TIA Smiling

Ferei BL 200 lights

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I've just had dropped off for review a set of Ferei BL 200 lights.

First impressions:
They make my 3.5yo AyUps look like demented glow worms. These puppies put out some serious lumens.

As a commuter lightset there is NO risk of outrunning these at any achievable speed on high beam, even on the ghastliest of wet nights. They claim a 270m range. I believe it. Using high beam on a bike path could be dangerous to other cyclists.

Garmin 800 compatible with the 500 bits?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Just checking - I've trashed my Garmin 500 in the last bingle. Thinking of replacing it with an 800. Can anyone tell me if the heart rate strap and speed/cadence sensor from the 500 work with the 800? I'm 99% sure they do but would like confirmation.

Thanks.

Garmin Edge 500 Question

Hi All,

I'm thinking of getting the Garmin Edge 500, after doing some reading online I have a question on the course function, can you load up a GPX file to the device and then follow the course ? The manual says you have to set it up using the garmin training tool.

I know that it's mapping capabilities are quite limited but if I can do the above, I can research the area first load up some points/tracks on the computer and then load it into the GPS and go for a ride. In case I get lost I can always follow the course back to my starting point.

thanks in advance.

Timex cycle trainer 2.0 GPS

Have been given the timex cycle trainer 2.0 , was wondering if you can put it on a mountain bike or just a road bike . Before I get any smart arse replies , yes I am technologically challenged and never seen one before .
And how do you install ? Any help appreciated , manual does not help much .

Good, reliable heart rate monitor

Hi all,

I am on the look out for a good reliable heart rate monitor. Can anyone recommend one? The one I have now (Sigma PC15) drops out all the time which gives me the shits. Maybe one around $150-$250 mark. I have had a look at the Polar ones but there are so many to choose from. I would like one with a stopwatch function but most of all one that doesn't drop out.

Thanks
