garmin/strava problems

My last 4 rides won't upload onto strava and it's only showing my last ride as the 19/12/2012.
My garmin says different and is showing the four rides in its history.
I've tried quite a few times and strava wont pick anything up after the 19th.
I cleared all history a few weeks ago on the Garmin so i know there's no issue with it being full.
Any advice please?
For those that don't know me. I work with wood and computers are the Devils work so none of this Gpx file and tech talk with me please! Eye-wink

Strava help

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I've recently started using Strava and quite like what it has to offer.

The only thing I'm having a problem with is, if I have my ride as private, I cant see where I'm ranked on the segments. Is there a way of changing this?

I don't mind having my mtb rides public as I don't start from the front door of my house. But when I'm doing a road ride, I don't like the thought of advertising to the world that I have a half decent bike in the shed. Surely there's a lot of other people with this opinion or am I just missing a setting in the program?

My Tiny Sun Sport 2700x

Got a new toy in the mail today to write up.

Initial impressions are it matches the throw of the Ferei BL200, but has the foreground in-fill I was lacking at this year's Mont. The 5.8Ah pack is also good for 2hr45 minutes on high beam and system weight is only 50g mor so more than the BL200. It is more expensive, though.

Full write-up to follow in the next week or so.

Sony action cam review

BNA, the site I occasionally write for, will have a review up soon on the new Sony HD Action Cam.

Here is a little bit of footage we shot the other weekend. A side-by-side comparison with the Hero2 will be forthcoming shortly. The riding's nothing spectacular, I am an old fart after all so be gentle Sticking out tongue

I was quite surprised how good the bar-mounted footage was. Best viewed in HD.

Advice/experiences with Garmin Edge 800?

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Thinking of getting a Garmin 800 GPS for Xmas, but got a couple of questions to those that already own them first...

Do you ever lose satellite reception round WA, particularly say down south in the dense forests? Would be using it as my only computer, so don't want it to keep dropping out and not recording my whole ride.

Are they reliable - seen a few formum posts around of problems switching themselves off, s/w glitches, file transfer issues etc. Want to be able to enjoy my ride, not spend half the time fiddling with the GPS!

More Edge 500 issues

Oh dear - more Garmin Edge issues Sad

I have an Edge 500 which has been working perfectly for years. I use this with a HRM and speed/cadence sensor.

This week though it failed to 'boot' (for want of a better word) so I gave it a factory reset. Seemed to work fine.

Power Meters Heartrate Monitor

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I came across the Powercal Power Meter device when I was looking around for a power meter. It is a heartrate monitor strap that extrapolates power based on (I can only assume) change in heart rate using some form of algorithm. There is no direct power meter on a hub, ledal or crank - its only input is heart rate.

What a load of rubbish I thought.

Then I read the comparison below where the Powercal heartrate power monitor was compared with a real power meter.
