A cold start!!
A bit disappointed with my time this year. I felt I went way harder and rode a lot faster than last year yet I was 3 minutes slower.
I hear the 'dead track' may have had something to do with it.
Was hard work riding without glasses. I had to squint 80% of the time to avoid a million pieces of firetrail entering my eyes. That in turn mad it hard to see the contours in the track in some places. I think that probably slowed me down a bit on the high speed decents which would've contributed to my time.
All in all though I had fun (apart from the FREEZING start) and that's the main thing.
1st DW 100K
What a great day. I was hoping for a time of around 7hrs and did it in just over 6.5 so i'm stoked. Having never done the 100 before (did 50K last year) I wasn't sure what to expect and how hard to push. I completed the first 50K in 2hrs 55min so was on track for a 6hr time. Little did I know how much of a wall I'd hit not long after the massive hill after the canoe bridge! I was feeling pretty slow along the top there and the hills never seemed to end! No mechanicals and only a couple of cramps so all in all a great day out. Rode the bridge too so I'm pretty happy with that.
1st Mont
What an awesome race! I was very happy with my consistency. I completed 6 laps - the slowest (not including the start) being 1:06:37 and the fastest a 59:07. We had a sweet set up right behind the Pizza van so we were nice and close to transition. Saw Rob on a warm-up lap on the Friday arvo and he introduced me to some other Nobmobbers quickly after...Sorry I didn't get to catch up with you guys again properly!
WSMTB - 4 Hour Summer Enduro Series Race 2
My preparation wasn't the best. I was feeling quite dehydrated and queezy in the stomach. Still managed 8 laps which put me 49th out of 107 solo riders. Had time for 9 laps but I had nothing left in the tank.
Disclaimer: According to my results, it says I did 9 laps, but my 7th lap only took just over 6 minutes with an average speed of 69 km/h!
WSMTB - 4 Hour Summer Enduro Series Race 1
Big thanks to all involved.
That was my first race as a solo rider in this sort of format and it was a pretty good race for me, although I was feeling a bit ill in the tummy. All the beers the night before wouldn't have helped that though! I'm looking forward to the next rounds with a bit better preparation.
Yellowmundee never ceases to surprise. I didn't even know some of those areas existed.
2009 Highland Fling
My goal was to beat 8 hours and I did that easily.
The time includes 16+ minutes of penalties which I'm not too happy about - I didn't think I hung around at those transitions for that long. Not to worry though as my Cateye said I completed the race 8 minutes longer than the official time.
Completing the 100K was the...
Completing the 100K was the most physically demanding thing I have ever done. The cramps, the heat and the constant feeling (after the 50K) I was going to spew. I nearly pulled the pin multiple times, but was determined to finish. As a result of all my resting and walking up hills I ended up finishing in over 9 hours...One of the last across the line. My wife was getting a bit worried when the guy I started with had finished 3 hours earlier! Ouch!
I smashed out the first 50K way to quickly (around 3.5 hours)...Gotta learn to pace myself better!
NRMA Woodford to Glenbrook Classic 2009
I had a pretty good race considering I was a bit hungover from watching the rugby the night before!
First time on the track and I pulled a 51.01 (16th in 30-39), riding a 14kg Heckler.
Was an awesome event although I wasn’t a fan of the ride back to the station after I had cooled down!!!
First 50K
This was my first DW 50K, in fact my first time I've ever ridden 50K!
I had an awesome race. My goal was to get in under four hours, but I ended up doing 2:25:20! 29th in the Veteran class and 90th overall.
I was a bit dusty from a wedding the night before and I stupidly put my gels in my backpack - I didn't want to stop to get them out so I kept on pushing. Did the whole race on Gatorade alone.
I was shattered last night. Don't think I've ever been so exhausted.
Was wet but worth it!
Great experience!
At some stages I was thinking that I didn’t want to be there, but looking back I’m so glad we persevered. I’m happy they pulled the pin at 9pm because I didn’t have enough pads to make it through the night.
I went through 4 sets of pads. One brand new front set lasted only one lap!
Big thanks to the Rocky Trail and the rest of the organisers and especially to the guys at the lube station for keeping my drive train running and the boys at Blackmans Cycles for their on-site repairs and brake pad supplies.
