Mont 2010 - Done and Dusted!
Another Mont 24 hours....this time without the rain to bed things down [cough]...but a great fun event!
Dust, Sweat and (no) Tears. Yes, an injury-free event for the Icicles - as per plan! Changing bikes from the 6" Enduro to a mate's shorter wheel base Giant Trance X2 a week before the race was a bit risky, but interesting. The weight difference was insignificant (13.9 kg, with Joplin and flat pedals) but the shorter wheel base and shorter travel made a difference on the climbs and switchbacks.
But my back was killing me after the first lap as the seating/pedalling position was completely different to the Enduro. Faster around the corners, but a lot more sketchy on the faster DH bits. I had also borrowed the smaller 2.1 Small Block 8's from my son's bike which worked better than the 2.4 RR's in the talkum powder dust. Despite all this, I got inspired to get a faster/lighter XC steed for this type of trail. Maybe next year I'll swap the AM bike to a lighter steed to better keep up with my team mates with their ultra-light Yeti ASR's, Scott Genius' and C'dale Rush...oh, yes; and with their fitness
Sarina's Six Pack beat them all!
She did a final lap in her pink undies and lace bra ...for a dare!
This was actually her fastest lap - less than one hour! Beat that boys!
Go Team BTI!
