shack attack
we were heading down on sat morning, while loading the car my bike was sitting in the back yard sporting a new set of Ritchey tyres ,when i went to get my bike I noticed a sm all pile of black stuff sitting just behind the rear wheel I picked some of it up to look at and realised it was chunks of rubber ,hmmm very strange! a close inspection of my tyre revealed three knobs of tread missing ,well it turns out my daughters pet rabbit (who roams the yard)has taken a liking to mtb tyres!no harm done my tyres performed brilliantly.
had a good trip down grabbed some lunch at Nowra and headed out to the track and set up our tent got rego done and went for a cruisey lap, there were a couple of bits of new track that looked really freshly cut with 2 up hill log overs one after the other a little awkward but easily done could be tough late in the race though, over all the track looked really good.
sunday morning the sun was shining things were looking good for a top day.I did the first lap got a fairly good position from the start but found i was getting held up a bit so i put some pace on at the end of the first section of single track and broke away from the group i was in then had some clear track ahead for a while, picked up several more places before handing over to my nephew Aaron.we went lap for lap with no problems
we were 7th in our class for most of the race on my 5th lap my gammy knee stated clunking and hurting a bit so i ignored this (as you do)I handed over to azz who was feeling fairly average now for his last lap he still managed to maintain our 4min lead over 8th, as i headed out for my 6th lap i realised that my knee was a real problem about half way I was in pain and was having to use granny gear on some of the climbs ,I had to just cruise and try to finish the lap,but the team in 8th were flying! he past me with less than 1 km to the finish and did his fastest lap beating us by 41 seconds,an exciting finish to a fantastic day of racing.
