I was out yesterday and walked past a pair of bathroom scales on sale, the ones that measure body fat percentage. In that I am more concerned with my general health than actual weight I committed the cardinal sin and made an impulse purchase. Used them last night and got the absolute shock of my life. Now I weighed myself at night when I would usually do that first thing on a Sunday morning.
100.9 kg a little up on last Sunday but given the last couple of days and the different time of day, no real concern with that number
37% body fat. That one scared the shit out of me. I've been kidding myself for goodness only knows how long. There goes the big boned theory. That means that, given I am 100kg, my frame is coated in 74 large tubs or margarine, no wonder I don't feel the cold. This has got to change. Healthy range according to the little book that came with the scales is 12 - 20% Oh fuck I do I have some work to do, that means loosing 17kg to get done to "normal". Can't let myself get dispondant because of this and need to use it to measure small steps in the right direction
42% body water rate. Normal for this is 53 - 67 No surprise here then that I can get dehydrated at times.
Ok so time to set those new goals I spoke about yesterday.
Its now been about 9 weeks since I first started this journey. Due for next blood test to check cholesterol around 13th August so between now and then I will be working hard at minimising my cholesterol. In that one of the biggest factors in dietary cholesterol is saturated fats I will obviously be avoiding these as much as possible. This I hope will also have an impact on that scary fat % figure. This time I will have a numerical aim, not weight but fat %. About 3 weeks to go now till this date so if I work on a "safe" figure of about a kilo a week then I should have a figure of about 34% by then, this is what I will aim at. At the same time I will try and get my body water % up to a healthy range as well. This should also help flushing out the system.
Will keep you all posted, probably not as lengthy as this though.
