2013 BMORC Bash
Glenbrook station carpark.
Well - the 3rd running of the BMORC bash is on. Bring out your clunkers and lets RIDE! Get scabbing around the mountains in the council clean-up and get yourself a stunning rig for the Bash.
Remember - guidelines are:
1) Bike not to be worth more than $200 new or needs to be over ten years old.
2) No disc brakes.
3) You have to carry it out with you even if it is stuffed.
4) All stacks are your own fault for riding such a heap of S*&t
5) No clipless pedals (unless the bike came with them originally)
6) Must be prepared to have an embarrassing photo taken.
Full rigid preferred - bring your penny farthing.
7) Anything else I have missed here....................
Of course these are only guidelines and are open to interpretation.
Glenbrook for the 8:23(now 9:03) train or meet at the trailhead at Woodford around 9:30am

hathill | 2013 BMORC Bash |
Well - firstly I must apologise for not posting this up sooner but I was so emotionally overcome by the ride on Sunday that I have only just stopped shaking and been able to put my thoughts into some sort of coherence. |
Were you there and have a story to tell?

I'll probably be on the Blue Power shot complete with rusting chain and cassette. Feels like it weighs in at over 20kg.
I'm doing the half bash this year, tandem all the way, then again I will have to ride to woodford with stokes to make up for it.

Since you double posted, does that mean your doing it twice to do one full bash?
Just a reminder that the BMORC Bash ride is open to all riders regardless of your bike.
So feel free to join us even if you have a new bike. Just don't expect to take out any of the major awards.
I wond if we will better last years time of 3:40min
With a single speed geared like a BMX i dont think that'll be a problem!
Awards! Who said anything about awards?
Didn't you hear about the awards Mr Hathill? Maybe you should have read the planning meeting minutes then.
Off to finish building my bike, still lots to do.
Talking about reading stuff. Can everybody please read this
, you WILL be quizzed on the topic prior to the ride.
Sounds like so much fun. If only I could find a 10 year old unicycle I would join. Two wheels is much too dangerous for me. What does BMORC stand for?
Just tell everybody the uni is 10 + years, they won't know anyway. You'll be just as fast on your uni as some of us.
This is what BMORC means. But everybody has a different idea of what BMORC stands for.

Sorry i'm out. My lungs have gone on holidays.
Hope it's not too serious Steve. Asthma getting worse? All the best for a quick recovery.
No one knows what it is. I have to see a respiratory specialist and a allergy specialist in a couple of weeks. Untill then I am stuck on the trainer.
Get well Steve, hope they sort it for you soon.
"Mountain bike riding is dangerous! You ride at your own risk, either alone, or in a group.
Riding can lead to serious injury, permanent disablement or even DEATH!"
Forewarned is forearmed, they say. But those who understand the risks, and STILL do stupid things, shall be ONE-ARMED.
And flying the BMORC banner between their teeth.
First ride back on the bike yesterday. The Wheeler and I will see you there, girls and boys.
Great news Jim!
... here's some motivation for those of us who've ever had the shoe-lace-tying-trauma:

To accurately answer this question correctly, we must first take into account a number of factors.
These are briefly:-
Estimated time to completion - T
Average age of bikes - Ba
Average age of riders -Ra
Average Fitness of riders - Fr
Number of participants - N
Quality of bikes - Q
Length of ride = L
Likelihood of alien abduction - Aa
Number of gorgeous members of the opposite sex encountered along the trail - Sx
As the average age of bikes increases, the duration of the ride T also increases due to the increased probability of failure. The same rule also applies to Ra and L.
On the other hand the higher Fitness Fr and Quality Q the lower resultant T.
Number of riders has the effect of squaring the expected time as does factor Sx although this is extremely unlikely!
In the case of alien abduction, everything depends on the level of anal probing - Ap.
So to put all this in a simple formula:-
T = (((T+ Ra + Ba + L) / (Fr + Q)) / (N^2 + Sx^2) x (Aa +Ap))) x Fudge Factor
Therefore T = Anybody's guess"
As always my biggest personal concern will be factor 'Fr'
Well grave dug Rory!
Forgot to say - good to hear you will be there Baptist - no repeat performances of this stack please.

Miggle might ride that section this year. He rode it like a legend a few weeks back as a spur of the moment thing as we approached heading up. I think the two hot looking ladies jogging past was the trigger though.
Took my ride out for a test spin earlier tonight, all looking good so far, just a couple of minor tweaks now. It's been a lot more work getting things ready this year. Hopefully the bike(and me) makes it down in one piece.
Havnt tested my beast, should make it interesting on dead mans corner. Best part may be carrying it out.
Are you kidding me, Giles? I'm still mostly one-handed at the moment, and will NOT be doing anything silly just to entertain you blokes. Someone else is going to have to step up.
Does anyone want to join stokes and I for the ride up, leaving blaxland just after 7.30am?
After Jim's comment -
"Are you kidding me, Giles? I'm still mostly one-handed at the moment, and will NOT be doing anything silly just to entertain you blokes. Someone else is going to have to step up. "
I nominate Chuck to be the official entertainment director. Any seconders?
City rail has trackwork this weekend.
The 8.23 could be the 9.00

Ken
I was just going to check the trackwork too. At least it's still trains and not buses. How is everyone situated if we push it back to 9:30am start - that way if the train around 9:00am anyone starting at Woodford (me) won't have to long to wait. If it gets there earlier then all the better.
Looks like 9:30 am at Woodford it is.
Well if I'm the "Official Entertainment Director", I'll be looking for volunteers to step up.
I'm sure you will all get some entertainment if my goose neck snaps.
Well that's always been my concern too Tim. Stephen rode the first year with really big chopper bars. He was worried the stem clamp would slip as they do and the bars would fall forward.
Tomorrows ride also marks 10 years since I first rode the Oaks back in Feb/March 2003 on my then new 2003 Giant Rincon. I remember riding down from the Helipad which was fast and then the highlight for me was the single track. The single track seemed rough, but I loved the way this narrow track snaked it's way through the bush. I also remember the climb out of the causeway, I rode most of it. Seems I only remembered the best bits about the Oaks.
All good for the later start. See you all there tomorrow...and Chuck's got me all teary eyed with his reminiscing. I'll make sure I bring a hanky along!
Ride up, forget the train. We will see you up there.
I'll have enough trouble riding with gravity on my side, let alone riding against it Char )
I'm going to use the Mini to get me to the start and hopefully pick up the pieces at the end - I might have to sweet talk the missus for the second part as I haven't asked yet.
Another great Bash ride. Some really cool bikes from the 90s, and then some really crap bikes that should never had been manufactured. Hopefully they are recycled sometime soon.
Next year I'll be back on some real steel with ridged forks. Aluminum just doesn't cut it for a nice ride and it's all to easy with 80mm of bouncy spring on the front.
The crack in the Rincon chainstay held together, I should have ridden it a little hard in hindsight. Here's a better look at the temporary chainstay brace.

There might be some real diamonds in there that he doesnt know about.
