Looking to hire junior sales person for a software company

Yeah, I know it's a bit 'out there' for a mountain bike forum, but desperate times call for desperate measures. The company I work for is looking to hire a junior sales person and we are struggling to get much interest from suitable applicants so I am casting the net pretty wide. The company is www.intechsolutions.com.au and if you are interested (or know someone who is) you can send a resume to me at [email protected] and I will send you a copy of the formal position description. If you are still interested then I will add you to the candidate list.

***Important*** You should ideally be an Australian resident as in the future you may need to undertake a variety of background checks and security clearances. Not a deal breaker, but please consider it before applying.

The first tip I can offer is that you actually read our website. You'd be amazed at how many hopefuls turn up to the interview and don't actually know what we do. The second tip is that while we are based on Bondi Junction in a nice office, once you are up to speed you will be expected to travel periodically and some of it will be interstate. Unless of course you are a killer inside sales person in which case you need to say so and we may adjust the role accordingly.

I am one of the interviewers, and the longest serving sales person (nearly 11 years). So I know what I want in a candidate and if the applicant is right for the role my opinion holds a lot of sway. The problem we are having with recruiting is we are not using a sales-focused recruiter so applicants to date have been hit and miss. I'd prefer to do it differently, but the recruiter is the bosses mate so it is what it is.

There's probably over 60 years of senior IT sales experience in the current sales team so it is a good way for a junior to start a professional sales career and learn a hell of a lot by osmosis. It won't be glamorous to start with, but the money is reasonable for the role. There is no cap on the OTE which to start with will be made up of $45-$55k base + expected $10k commission + super. Additionally, you will be looked after both professionally and personally. I also have a vested interest in making this work.

Existing accounts and new sales leads will be provided, initially at the lower end of our spectrum of clients, but more and bigger will be given if the person can do the job well. I am responsible for all of our existing clients in Australia and will determine which ones are handed to the junior. New sales are managed by our senior BDM and he will be responsible for providing leads for new opportunities and making sure they are followed up.

No previous IT experience is required. Our focus is on sales and specifically customer-facing experience. That means that if you have been or are a manager or assistant manager of a retail store, a team leader in a contact centre or have some other source of relevant experience then you are welcome to apply. In fact, I am more interested in the persons intelligence, aptitude, personality and motivation than seeing a specific type of work history.

Additionally, just because the role is called 'junior sales' doesn't mean you need to be young. Just need to have plenty of productive working years ahead of you so that we can plan the companies professional development path for the sales team.

Anyhoo, if any of this tickles your fancy scroll back to the top of this post and send me an email.

Cheers,

Jason.
