Have some shiny new chris king hubs, what rims should I lace them too for AM riding. Carbon or alloy?
Cheers

Remy Metailler

Someone needs to give this guy a heavier bike. He spends way too much time airborne.

Mogo State Forest

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

I'm planning to head over to Bateman's Bay over this Xmas period, I believe the 27/28/29th of December (and then on to the Snowies), home to the famous Mogo State Forest, that, according to the Nobmob page, has "miles and miles of the sweetest singletrack you'll ever find," and I have it on good authority from many people that this is a place well worth exploring, so looking forward to jumping down.

Backpacks

Any thoughts on backpacks. I always used camelbak as nothing beat their durability but they have changed the material they use and frankly are rubbish now. What do people think is a good substitute. Sick of companies compromising quality.

Giant Reign 3 Suspension Bearing

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Hey all,

I bought an old Reign 3 '05 last year and finally got round to rebuilding it.

When I took apart the rear suspension, the upper bearing (i think its called the seatstay pivot, refer to pic) both just fell in pieces. Not sure if that what those bearings are meant to do but never seen that before.

I have bearings for the rest of the suspension set up but need to replace these smaller ones.

Does any one know the model or specs of the bearings i need to get?

Any help would be appreciated.

Do’s and don’ts with regard to mountain biking

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Another weekend of great riding around the NB but I have noticed some consistent practices that really give me the sh!ts. Interested in people's views on below.

1)Making A lines into B lines – if you can’t ride the A line, practice, don’t put rocks down or convert it into a permanent B line. Examples include 19th hole roll off and gap jump coming down the new section into the hydro lab at the dam.

Stuck Pedals

I cleverly didn't put enough grease on my pedal thread on my old bike and time has come for the pedals to be changed, and I've been informed that there is some spray or liquid or something that can be applied to help loosen them to take them off. Anyone able to think of what this is offhand?

Which GoPro???

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Now I know there are many versions now days and naturally the higher specced version is also the most expensive.

What's the opinion of those owners that use theirs generally to video their MTB riding using the chest mount?

Carbon Rim Failure

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Well with 2 weeks til the Fling and after solid block of training, the front carbon rim on my Giant Anthem Advanced has failed - see attached photos. There was always a small "ridge" in the rim, like the one near the air valve, but where the spoke has popped out the ridge got bigger over time. I now suspect this might have been a manufacturing defect, since there are no ridges at all on the back rim. The bike is 2 years old. The failure happened unexpectedly - no crash or impact. I've written to Giant to ask if they have any advice...

New bike mechanic needed!

Can anyone recommend a good bike mechanic in Sydney?
I just found out my regular mechanic is leaving tomorrow, and I need to get my bike serviced next week. I have all the major drivetrain parts already, just need them fitted and everything checked over.

One on One Mountain Bike Training lessons

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Just wanted to share some testimonial with you all. I recently gave a gent in his 50's a mountain bike lesson. He had told me that he had done a lot of racing and was quite fit. However, he wanted some tips on how to climb techy rock sections. This is what he had to say after a 2 hour lesson with Lisa from Sydney Bike Skills. www.sydneybikeskills.com.au

Giant PTRX1 rims

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Decided to do some regular maintenance on my rims with DT 240 hubs. Drive side bearing is only accessed once the ring nut is removed. 3 bike shops later and I managed to get someone to replace the bearing. Now the wheel locks up because the ring nut has been installed wrong way up!! Last time I get a bike shop to do anything on my bike. Can't take the wheel back as I'm not in Perth!! No riding for two weeks now, thanks to Giant in Perth. 240 might be good hubs but don't try to change wheel bearings. Hope hubs are looking real good ATM

Rotorua/MTB holiday advice

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

It is common knowledge that in order for one to call himself a mountain biker (particularly in Australia), he must make a pilgrimage to Rotorua at least once in his lifetime. Hence when I consider the need for a MTB holiday between the completion of my internship at Christmas and the start of my final year at uni in March, this is naturally my destination in mind.

Blue Loctite

You know that blue Loctite you get on rotor bolts and the like...where can I get it? I have some of the liquid version, but it's the gel or tape version I'm after. Thanks in anticipation.
