Tour of Oaks?

Well with Andrew planning a night ride of the Oaks, I want to have a look at the trail in the day before I try it at night!

Is anyone keen on showing me round there during the day possibly this weekend? I know Shano has planned a big ride in Galston so I can do Sunday too if that works better.

oaks is a good trail with lots of riders and very hard to get lost.
You can do oaks quite easily by yourself, park at glenbrook train station, catch the train to woodford, follow the other 20 riders to the start of the track (about 2kn or so road ride from the station), chat with a few riders along the way and join with a group of similar speed to yourself. I have gone up there numerous times by myself and never ridden the actual track alone (as long as you go on a weekend, preferably betwen 8am and 11am). Its mainly fire road, dont turn off the main track and you wont get lost. at about the 12-13km mark you will reach a clearing point, from hear its a 7-8min scream down a hill at 40-50km/h. Make sure you hold on tight, at the botom you come to a locked gate, you wanna make sure your brakes are still functioning at this point, otherwise you will experience an OTB at 50km/h once you hit the gate. Go around the gate and enter the single track off to the left (if you can find it wait here for other riders to turn up and follow them)
Single track all the way till you hit the road, then downhill to the creek then selct Mrs Granny gear for the 2km or so climb out of the park then follow the road back to your car. About 28km or so from station to station.
If you are going on Sat, post a ride, i am sure some will go. If you do go by yourself take it easy on the technicalish downhill section so you dont come off with no-one there to help you.

Hi Ben, I'm thinking of hitting the Oaks this Saturday, but I’ll do Andersons as well. If you want, create a new ride that I’m sure more people would come.

Cheers,

Leo.

I don't think I'll do the full Anderson's plus Oaks. That would be over 60km? Think I would lack the endurance for that right now.

If you were to ride this Saturday what time would you be passing through Woodford Station? We can meet up there and I'll then do the Oaks back to Glenford.

Shano has organised the Berowra Valley thing so will do that. These trails will be new for me, so fun as Andos and Oaks is will stick with Shano's plan.

Next time though Smiling

Perhaps next weekend would be better. Can go do the Oaks while Christine goes on her Nobettes ride.

Edit: Just realised there is ride in the mountains Sunday week already. May just come along to that.

Ah... sorry, I have to be "in the area" for the chix ride. You know, just in case. I will be posting a blokes only serious training ride for around the same time in the same area Eye-wink

Next free weekend I see is 25th, 'cos all the rides until then look pretty good! You guys should go ahead anyhow, if you wait for everyone you'll never get there! Eye-wink

How about meeting at Hazelbrook train station and doing some sweet single track a bit of fire rd and then down The oaks, it is the tracks that I'll be hosting a ride on, on the 12th Aug. so you could get a head start on everyone else and try them out, I think there's a good chance you'll want to do it again. I was going to be doing it this weekend anyway as I live in Woodford.
All welcome of course John.

Sounds good to me. I can't come on the 12th Aug ride as I'm going to run/walk the City 2 Surf so this can make up for it.

I'm not an great morning person so I'm planning on catching the 10:23 train at Glenbrook which gets to Hazelbrook at 10:58. I'll post a ride up in the calendar.
