Lithgow Shenanigans!!

When:
Saturday, 29 September, 2007 - 09:00
Duration:
5 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
I'll be there, no matter what the weather.
Meeting Point:

Aldi Carpark - Valley Drive, Lithgow

Valley Dr, Lithgow
Details:

Calling all riders who want another explore around Lithgow, as discussed above.

NOTE - riding is now for Saturday only. There is just too much to do on Sunday Eye-wink (guys, you know what I mean!)

As already discussed, I think it would be best looking around Donnybrook / Hassans Wall on the Saturday. We will leave it to the locals to show us around, as you guys know best. Ideally we would like some of the best XC riding, with plenty of rocky, downhill, technical bits. I think we will probably leave out the serious DH jumps for next time.

Flynny - can you please load in a Googlemap reference for a meeting point? i.e. Hassans Wall? I have down the Visitor's Centre, but we may want to meet at the correct place straight up.

See you all there!! Laughing out loud

Who's in?
evan, Little-Ditty, Caro, Bruce, lorrie, Flynny (6 riders)
evan Little-Ditty Caro Bruce lorrie Flynny
What Happened?

Were you there and have a story to tell?

Wasn't it commented that you were thinking of a day of shuttling, then overnight in Lithgow then something else (Newnes/Glow Worm Tunnel/etc) on Sunday?

I'm keen more on some XC action that doing shuttles - still have my eye on riding to the top of that hill S/E of Lisdale. Depending on what transpires would like to join on Sat or Sun. In fact, will you post another ride on Sunday if that turns out to be the plan?

Flynny's picture

Looks like I've got the Saturday off and a leave pass organised.

A few locals are keen for shuttle runs so should be able to show you all around the various Hassans Walls tracks

So who's in, who's and what type of riding are we wanting full on DH or more "All Mountain" what ever that means...

Caro's picture

I'm in for the Saturday!
Probably more Cross country but happy to play on the DH if I ride it in slow motion Smiling.
A bit of a mix would be good! First day on the bike since ... I don't know when, so I'm easy..

lorrie's picture

yeah I'm in for XC need to get that training in!

Hassans Walls tracks sound great, have only been there once before & time wasnt on our side, so would be good to have a better look around. Have to be back in Sydney for Saturday night so could only ride till about 2.30-3ish. Shuttles sound great.
Hey Liam, I think there is a certain hill we have to ride again Sticking out tongue

Flynny's picture

if doing the Hassans Walls track is the Aldi Car park.

If coming Bells Line of Road, come into Lithgow, through first set of lights and turn left at second set(T intersection) onto Lithgow street. This will take you past the coles/target shopping center. Turn left just after (Sign for Hassans Walls) and Aldi is just in on the left.

not sure if this link will work but

Flynny, the link works good enough.

Thanks.

Will make sure that it is daylight and I have the camera ready this time Smiling
Just stay off the breaks!! Eye-wink (says she, who walked down....)

Little-Ditty's picture

And it was a full moon that night too...

Flynny's picture

Who needs day light

Bruce's picture

Is there any reason why we cant start the ride a little earlier now that its one day only?
If we are going to ride the same trails as we have before, are shuttles planned or are we going to stick to the xc only & ride back to the top? Trying to figure out if I should bring anchor or the feather weight bike.

Your legs will thank you in 2 weeks time...
Eye-wink

Flynny's picture

For Hassans Walls bring the big bike. It will be more fun.
Shuttles will give you a better chance to look around. there are about a dozen short trails coming down off the reserve. They all come down in different parts of town. After the 4th ride up you'd be well and truly over it. By shuttling we could get more runs and see more tracks

I agree with Bruce any chance of having it moved forward to 9am.

Note - the ride time has been moved to 9:00 a.m. to cater for the group's request. No worries fella's!! Smiling

Flynny... hopefully this time will still be okay for you and your guys. If not, we can always troll around ourselves for an hour or two and meet up.

Should be awesome fun. See you all there!!

for the time change Liam, more time to explore & have massive amounts of fun Smiling

Thanks Flynny, Darren & Joel for showing us around & for excellent shuttle runs. Joel totally blew us away with his riding talent. Sorry you couldn't hang around Liam, so for your benefit we will have to go back real soon.

Caro's picture

Loved it and can't wait to go back!
Thanks so much for showing us around and for the shutteling, I think I could get used to riding only downhill Smiling, we couldn't have done half as much downhill riding without it!

P.S. Make sure you come and visit us for some Red Hill and Oxford Falls exploration soon Eye-wink

Kewl, who are the 3 riders in the vid? How does the dude get so much air at 42 seconds (in the bottom movie)?

Flynny's picture

The riders in the bottom vid are my good self (blue helmet grey shirt) Alex M(orange shirt) and Skud (crappy bighit/ full face helmet)

At that spot there is a small rock lip up onto the rock shelf, not sure how or why but I've alway had fun boosting off that and always had a knack of getting air off it. Though not as much now days on the DH bike with 5th element rear shock, they just don't boost like Fox
