Speaking to Nicole today, there's still a couple of spots left for those keen to get involved.

A very productive day on the trail in conditions that turned out to be not too bad at all.

We worked on the section between the big golf course rock, favourite rest stop to all, and the Wakehurst parkway entrance to the trail, so a fairly long stretch.

The focus of the day was to keep the trail sustainable, mainly paying attention to the waterbars and rocky sections of the trail, blocking off eroding lines, creating easier direct lines and improving run-off. We closed off a lot of lines that had become apparent around the sides of some of the waterbars while creating some easier direct lines to keep things rideable while not detracting from the challenge.

What you realise from even simple work like this is that it's not easy balancing the need for a fun trail with enough rideable lines for all skill levels with the environmental imperative to keep erosion to the side of the trail to a minimum. Hats off to the rangers for keeping up the good work, especially on one of the most ridden trails in NSW.

I'd encourage anyone who rides the Dam to get along to one of these and have a go for yourself to see how well the trail is maintained and how much we are in debt to those that do so.

We had a crew of 10-12 enthusiastic souls and it was good to see familiar faces, though I've never been one for name retention unfortunately, sorry! The ever present Dreggsy took time afterwards to school a few of us in a quick lap of Bantry Bay, including going straight off the big drop off, next time I'll follow...

Pics to come soon...

Cheers,
Matt.

PS - Now for a slight whinge, so turn off your monitor if you can't stand a whingeing pom... There's always one and today was no exception, one guy complained on seeing what I was doing that we were making the trail too easy! What people like him have to realise is that there have to be easy direct lines because there is such a range of skills on the trail and without those lines people will make their own erosive lines and the trail fairies will put horse poo under your pillow...

PPS - There was a feeling among a few of the group that some NoBMobbers had been overly critical of some of the previous work that has been done (I think this was mainly about the (entirely necessary) levelling of the section from Wakehurst Parkway to our favourite hill) so please keep it positive and lets not criticise unless we truly understand what's going on. You just need to realise that lots of people read this site and if you post something derogative or unjustified a lot of people will read it and may take it to heart, plus you'd look like a dill ;-}
