What a great event

This is the first time I raced the Capital Punishment and it is a fantastic event.

I started in the second wave and it is great to have a small group of similar level riders to start with. Just eased into the first 20km and enjoyed all the single track. There was traffic but it was moving fast. Only the elite females were causing hold ups.

This is the first time I raced the highland fling and it was a great weekend. I am really happy with my result, my fitness was good but I struggled with cramps for the back half.

I started the race with about 100 people in front of me and really wanted to use the first stage to warm up and it was clear that there was many people behind who wanted to race from the start. There were lots of riders passing me but after a couple of kms the testosterone and pace of the riders around me settled down and there were some good packs forming to ride with.

Happy to beat my goal time of 6 hours. I knew I had gone out to hard when I passed Steve fixing a flat at 60km, he came flying past me on the road after the river crossing.

I really struggled from 75 - 90kms and then broke my chain when I hit the final road section. The rest to fix it did me good but about 20 people passed me. 116 overall 17th in the open male 100km.
