Little Moab Loop has improved
Hi All
For those of you that ride the Oxford Falls area, you might be interested to know that the loop that extends to the right hand side of Little Moab is now a lot less overgrown.
The 'trail fairies' have been hard at work with their pruners and have made the faster sections a joy to ride. This is surely one of the best non technical tracks in the area!
There is stil a bit more clearing to be done and the more people that ride it the better. If you're not sure where it is, check the Oxford falls section on this site.
There is also a new jump at the end of the XC loop called the "Latte Gap", after it's builder, who is a Cannondale rider.
Cheers
John

Sounds cool Goatman! Everyone should check out this trail, like the man said, the more that ride it the more rideable the overgrown bits will become ( they're only a few branches afterall).
Now about this "Latte Gap", is it easy to find or do you need arrows to guide you into it?
And a possible word of warning to all, you will probably need a heap of speed to clear it too....
Hey guys... please remember that parts of Oxford Falls are inside National Park - trimming or trail building of any kind can't really be encouraged in there.
I know it's a pain when things get overgrown, but Celia is working on a plan to get NPWS on side and do some organised work so be patient and let's see what comes of that.
Cheers!
Sorry for the misunderstanding but I was trying to encourage people to ride the trail, not trim or build on it.
And you all should, the more that ride this the better.
We're not talking about building or cutting a new trail here. Rather about getting people riding a fantastic trail again which has just become overgrown ( by overgrown I just mean some small branches and grass sticking out from the sides of trail)on a couple of sections through lack of usage.
This really is a great, long downhill ride with a ( very) short hike-a-bike section to get out at the end of the loop. Well worth it!
I found this new 'jump' on the XC loop yesterday. Erm... dunno if someone moved it or something, but why would you place a ramp there?
At the bottom of the track (after all the fun, high speed stuff and heading back towards the pool and Aero club) there are two pretty high (50cm?) rock steps. This 'jump' was on the second I think and had a... erm... perhaps 30cm gap between the end of it and the top of the step, making it more of a ramp then a jump.
FWIW you don't really need anything like this on the XC track, both these step sections are do-able if you keep right and hit them fast enough. Reckon this woodwork would be better placed in the Downhill track somewhere.
The jump had definately been moved.
It wasn't the lame ramp up onto the shelf that you describe. Rather it was set on a rock platform a good 4 foot back from the shelf. Was a fair sized gap and you needed a lot of speed to hit it.
Made for a good end to come balsting down the hill at the end of the XC loop, and then with all the adrenaline pumping you could keep your speed and hit the gap.
As it was set to the far left of the track it didn't at all affect the rest of the trail at all for those not wanting to hit it.
Another case of people fiddling with stuff that they didn't build and/or just don't get.
No matter, the jump's been moved back now...
Yeah as jedijunglesnow says the 'Latte Gap' (so named after it's Cannondale riding builder) was moved. Normally it sits to the far left, quite out of the way of the 'normal' route up the little rock platform.
The gap should be approx 6-7 feet allowing you to land up on top of the rock platform with great speed.
And further to Rob's comment, it was simply adding to all the fun, high speed stuff at the bottom of the track.
Whoa.... that sounds more like it - although plenty of scope for some big prang if you don't take enough speed ... visions of front wheel not making it up to the top step and flying over the bars
Yeah - if it's moved back there I'll be giving it a miss and taking the right side always. Yeah - wuus!
Yep you need plenty of speed alright, but very little chance of the front wheel hitting the tranny. If you came up short it's more likely that you'd case your rear wheel or even worse land on your bottom bracket and compress like a tin can!
Definately need a good run up though, maybe even some arrows to guide you in...
