Stromlo World Championships + Riding
Uriarra Road, just up from the Uriarra Road/Coppins Crossing Road turnoff.
The World Champs are on and I'll be there to see the action.
https://www.mtbworldscanberra.com.au/home/
It's on all week, but I'll be there for the weekend, expecting to go down on Friday afternoon back Sunday evenng after the presentations.
Will take the bike and do a couple of rides too, although a bit early to confirm exactly where, but count on it being around the course where possible. Also a chance to ride some of the circuit that'll be used for the Scott 24. There's a ride posted already out at Majura on Saturday morning by Jeeten [ http://nobmob.com/node/9937 ].
I'm expecting to camp (in the car), and if there's enough interest I'll take the mega tarp and lighting set too.
Update, I've organised a cheap hotel, so won't be camping now. Security for the bikes and the whole hassle of camping was looking too much.
There may be some extra bunks in the room. PM or call me if you are interested. It's very basic, but it's cheap and only 5 mins from Stromlo.
Were you there and have a story to tell?

I just checked the link about the World Champs and found that there is no camping at Stromlo, also they say you can purchase your tickets through ticketek at $20 per day or $25 at the gate, but there is also a parking fee that I can't find a price for, or it's free shuttle buses from Canberra (with a bike?).
Ticketek also have a $4.95 transaction fee and a $5.95 collection fee but luckily the booking fee and GST is included in the ticket fee.
So my plan of going down with my 2 sons camping and riding at Stromlo with my boys and other NoBMoBBers isn't going to happen.
Even staying in Canberra (unfun) and going Sat & Sun I don't know if we could ride to Stromlo or ride while there, or if they have a bike fee?
By the time I pay $130 entry for myself and 2 sons, parking and accommodation and travel expenses I'm now on the wrong side of $500.
Maybe I'll just drive down for the day.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.
There is Cheap Camping at the showgrounds.
@$15.00/night you don't need to book either

the bus is free

Bikes i don't know about,
Canberra is small so you can ride off road to there.
I'll see you down there.
Thanks for the tip Dreggsy, I just rang them and they don't expect any problems just rocking up and camping. I'll use that as my preferred option I think.
As for riding, I'm up for taking the bike along as long as there is a place to store it safely when not in use. Perhaps I need to hire a van....
to get a ticket sent to me (for some reason Ticketek aren't offering the print off your own ticket thing), but apparently you have to allow two weeks for postage, which would arrive after even the cleanup is finished.... I'll prob just get a ticket at the gate, as I won't have a chance to get to the box office to pick one up between now and then.
Looking forward to some pine forest night riding fun
We'll be camping with some friends at Cotter Dam Campground (limited facilites, but close to Stromlo).
Details for Cotter Campground (Bring the woolies...could be chilly) as below. I'll be heading down with my youngest son(8); and we'll bring the bikes for a lap of Majura/Sparrow.

Thanks Hans for another option!
I did a check with google maps
- cotter is 10km from stromlo
- exhibition park is 24km from stromlo, across town
cotter looks far more convenient, and could be ridden by bike easily.
I rang the park and spoke to the rangers, and they don't take bookings.
They recon it'll be pretty busy, but as it's unallocated spaces "there should be room to fit in somewhere".
So.... Looks like we'll have Camp Nobmob!
Once again, whoever is heading down early/first on Friday 4th (if not before) can try to secure an area for the campers. FWIW, I'm expecting to head down Friday lunchtime, aiming to get there before dark.
Now all we need to do is work out bike security.....
Sent an email to World Cup Mangement and they say there is at least 40kms of open single track for public use during the champs! Nice! I might ride there friday avo.
If anyone is heading down on Friday night/Saturday morning do you feel like car pooling?
I probably don't have a car available for the whole weekend but if I could get another bod interested it could be good to hire a van to keep the bikes secure when we are down there. If it gets to cold we could sleep in it too
I'll be coming down to camp at Cotter so if you can save a spot that would be appreciated, what time would you be going to Stromlo on the Sat morning as I'm not sure where to go 1st, Cotter to stake my claim or Stromlo?
John.
I've put my hand up for the second bunk
I'm liking the sound of the hot shower and safe bike storage. Plus, I can imagine with my current luck I would end up catching a cold camping the weekend before the Angry Doctor.
look at the forecast for next weekend campers! BBBBRRRRR!!!!! glad i've booked a room in the good old carotel!
A room also next to Steve and Dylan.
John
Im just heading down as a spectator, anyone know what the deal is with parking? is it free or do I have to pay
They are suggesting that you take the bus from civic or belk. We were able to ride some of the WC trail this weekend, it was AMAZING seeing those WC riders make everything look SO effortless!
Can't wait for this weekend!!
hey snowbird you only need to head over to https://www.mtbworldscanberra.com.au/tickets/ to find out that: "All tickets include: public bus transport from Canberra City, Woden and Belconnen bus interchanges to Stromlo Forrest Park, car parking at the event venue and all day bus shuttles up and down the mountain".
hey jeeten i was so excited to ride stromlo with you friday but i just got this update from the official organisers after visiting https://www.mtbworldscanberra.com.au/contact-us/
is think your source is corrupt??
Hi Mark,
Mt Stromlo will be cut off from the public riding the tracks when the event is on. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but you can access the all the trails after the event.
Thanks
Steph

I've decided to leave the bikes at home for this trip as I think they'll be a pain to look after the whole weekend for the amount of use they'll get.
There's always going to be something worth watching and if not, then I'll have a drink.
John.
Dylan and I are leaving Sydney at 12:30, and will be at Stromlo (via our hotel to dump our stuff) at around 5.30.
4X final is at 6:30, so hope to see some of the crew there. Give us a buzz if you are around,
otherwise we'll catch up over the weekend.
No firm plans for riding yet, some questions whether we can ride at Stromlo - even on the non-race tracks
Anyway, we'll have the bikes so looking forward to rides Sat and Sunday mornings, so if no riding at Stromlo (unlikely) we might head out to Majura for the organised ride Sat morning.
