The Royal Flying Doctor Service needs you!!!

As most of you know, I like bikes. No not the ones with engines the ones with pedals.

Anyway I digress, at the start of October I am riding across the Simpson desert, 600km of sand at 40 degrees for 5 days. This ain't no walk through the city to a sunny beach

Why? I hear you ask.
Stupidity?
Am I on Drugs?
A drunken bet?

It's actually none of the above. I am doing it to raise money for equipment for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

This will help them buy cool stuff like Cardiac Monitors, Defibrillators and External Cardiac Pacing Units.

So that must be good eh? And it will make you feel all warm and fuzzy in side.

All I am asking is for a small donation like $10, $20. Remember it is a tax deduction.

Below is a link where you can make your donation via the secure website, where you will receive an email receipt regarding your transaction.

Thank you for your time.

You might like to post on bicycles.net.au for some wider publicity beyond the confines of mtb fandom.

A word of warning though: unless you're an existing member with a post count of greater than 10, please be courteous and contact the moderators first before posting. If you go this route you may find (with a few subtle hints on your part) that they may be willing to consider doing an article on you.

It can only help. Eye-wink

through the Simpson last year on "holiday" and it was bloody hard, although you will undoubtedly be bike fitter than me! I would strongly recommend you go tubeless (if you have not already) because there will be a tendency to ride on the side of the track if it is too sandy in the middle and there are lots of tiny little thorn things around....... The only people who didn't get flats with me road tubeless.
Also be prepared to ride into demoralising headwinds and as you can imagine you cannot shelter from them anywhere out there! No doubt you will be camping which will be good providing it's not too cold in the morning. I did it in mid-August and it must have been close to freezing at times - not a pleasant experience so take arm and leg warmers with you just in case, and decent socks!

Anyhow after all these hard tales, if you are still going you will really enjoy it.......on reflection! But it is very liberating doing a sh*t in the middle of nowhere in the Outback, just you, your shovel amd your mates if you don't find a secluded enough spot!

Seriously mate it'll be an unforgettable experience, just remember to try and enjoy the surroundings as you are ploughing through all that sand!! Eye-wink

Well done Dreggsy - I think the below means you came in third!

http://www.mtba.asn.au/news/?IntCatId=20&IntCont...

...Alan Keenleside (NSW) cruised home for the overall win being the only rider to complete 100% of the event. 2008 winner Lynton Stretton was second with Jason Dreggs sharing the overall podium positions.
