Just in from the rangers:

Firetrail maintenance works

The Manly Dam Firetrail (the vehicular access road) will be closed to all users for maintenance works weekdays from Monday 13th November 2006.

This closure will prevent access to all sections of the fire trail and the single track at Allambie Hts to the Childrens Playground at Cootamundra Drive Allambie Hts.

These works will take approximately three weeks.

The closed areas will blocked off with barrier fencing and tape.

Alternative access to other parts of bikecircuit track via local roads must be sought during the week as heavy machinery and trucks will be present on the trail.

Access to the above areas will be available on weekends only for the duration of works.

Powerline Works

Energy Australia will be working beneath powerlines at Allambie Heights in the Park weekdays from Monday 13th November 2006 for approximately 1 week.

Care must be taken on the Allambie Heights side of the circuit from Cootamundra Drive Allambie Heights to King St Manly Vale due to the presense of heavy machinery for vegetation clearing under powerlines.

Any enquiries please forward to us via email or the phone numbers listed below.

I can't quiet figure out where Nicole is talking about - but by the sounds of it staying away completely in the week is the go - which shouldn't be a problem for most of us office bound folk Sad

Rob,
The fire trail work is basically the whole length of fire trail from the gate on Wakehurst Parkway to the start of the single track / boardwalk section on the Allambie side, you know the section that starts with a little rock armouring, then a small log drop, round a couple of bends and then onto the long boardwalk that leads to the big drop. Basically they're grading the trail, particularly the steep, eroded downhill sections. My mail has it that the steep section into the creek is going to be replaced with sleepers across the trail, chained or fixed together in much the same way as the boardwalk, only on a much larger scale. Don't quote me on this as that news is several months old and things may have changed. This should make riding this section alot less challenging, atleast until the ground between the sleepers erodes and we are left with deep gaps and square edges to contend with.

Can't say much about the energy aus bit except I presume it is from about the start of that above section of boardwalk all the way through to the dam itself. Don't know if you've noticed or not but there are power lines that run all the way down this length, presumably why that second section of single track will also be closed.

Sounds like the golf course single track will still be open though.

From the top of the descent here (entrance by Wakehurst Parkway where you cross to Bantry Bay) pretty much all the way down to the creek crossing has been widened, as has the section from around Evas Junction to turnoff to 19th hole.

It was never really single track before but now is a veritable freeway. Watch out for loose branches in the wheels and getting off line. Particularly on the downhill part the rocks are still nice and solid, but left and right are mushy piles of vegetation - yerch!

Here's hoping that once all that trimmed bush is gone and things are bedded down it will be back to business as usual.
