For those of you riding the Capertee Challenge this weekend or thinking about doing so (www.caperteechallenge.com) - below is the information from the race organiser.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

WELCOME to the 2nd Capertee-Challenge……. here is some info to help all parties involved.

1. Give yourself extra TIME to get to the START/FINISH location and please drive safely.

START/FINISH is located 9 kms from CAPERTEE on the Glen Davis RD. Turn right 50 meters past the SHELL roadhouse. Roadhouse is good supporter of the event.

2. Registration from10.30 am - 12 NOON LA MANS START.

3. FOOTWEAR is to be worn at all times by EVERYBODY as there are snakes, branches, and other nasties.

4. HELMETS {done up} to be worn when on bike.

5. WATER - should bring some with you.

6. CAMPING is free but BASIC - located at the start/finish area.

7. FOOD

Local road house will bring a mobile shop to the start/finish late sat .
Hotel and roadhouse cafe for others requirements.
BBQ lunch {Sunday} will be on at the conclusion/presentation via the CAPERTEE RURAL BUSH FIRE BRIGADE - small change would help.

8. OFFICIALS

Are all volunteers so please be courteous - they would like to see some pain /suffering as they do think you are mad.

Officials will be in orange /yellow shirts.

9. RIDERS PACE YOURSELF don’t THRASH YOURSELF. If you cant go on, place your bike ON THE TRACK and DO NOT GO INTO THE BUSH stay on the track.

10. If DR or SWEEP tells you to STOP then STOP. For safety THERE IS A TIME LIMIT of 5 hrs.

This course is challenging with hills both up and down, bush, forest and some long fast sections so it will be a mix of all. The council graded the back road last week thanks to Donna’s efforts, but don’t get a false sense that it’s all easy…the climbs to the finish ARE tough.

The event travels through 12 private properties and we have organised that all gates will be open, however please do not interfere with any farm activity, be wary of animals, cattle ,roos and wombats as there are plenty along the track. Please STAY on the track.

A sense of HUMOUR is always welcomed.

Thank you for supporting the 2 charities those being the PARAPLEGIC BENEFIT FUND and the CAPERTEE DISTRICT AND PROGRESS ASSOC. via the Capertee-Challenge 2009.

RICHARD WARE, Organiser.

Certainly put the "challenge" into this years course.

I was ill on the weekend so I didn't make it down myself but reports are that on the Saturday only half a dozen or so riders managed to complete the 60km course with in the 5hr cut off.

Tough ups followed by high speed, techie descents.

Rob, and other uphill junkies, if you really wanted a test on big hills you should have been there!

It was a bloody tough outing, the course had a bit of everything, much of it a nice romp through farm trails but the bit that left a lot to be desired was what killed us all...super steep loose descents which were only just ridable/dangerous then steep walkups the other side..15km of that rollercoaster style. I went over the bars on the very last descent, messed up my nose and both wrists and hands - still sore - and bust my rear derailleur shifter so i rode another 30+km with 3 gears - front derailler only. Total ridden 53kms, so Didn't finish - like about half the field. THat night was bloody freezing camping (snowed in the mountains) and the next day's shortened course in still very cld conditions attracted only about 15 riders. Apart from the course setting error the organisers did a great job though and are really nice people. They'll no doubt get the course right next year (last year too easy, this year too hard, next year just right?) in which case it's worth doing for sure - it's a charity event plus it's the only way you'll ever get to ride some of the great country in the area which is all private property and normally closed. Now, anybody got an X9 front derailer shifter spare?
