OK so the new bike is on it's way and all I can do now is wait and shop for accessories Smiling I know it's going to get scratched eventually but for the time being I would like to try keep it looking new...

Just curious what everyone thinks are necessary items?

I have a rear mud guard at the moment which comes in useful for those wet rides, and was thinking about investing in either a front mud guard or down tube guard to keep the crap off my rear shock and derailleur.

My two main goals are keeping crap off my face and crap off hard to clean spots like rear shock and derailleur. I was thinking of putting an order in at wiggle but they don't seem to have a huge range.

This front one is a bit shiny but looks like it may work well?

Curious how effective these are and if they get in the way?

These seem like a good investment to protect the frame on 'rub points'

Curious if anyone uses one of these?

Anyhow sorry about all the Q's, hopefully I can help someone one day Smiling

I mean the mud guards. Before my current bike i had a hard tail, used to comute and then for the tracks. The mud guards woked wonderfull on the bike paths keeping all the watery mud from my face but not from my shoes, so i am not so sure they will protect the rear shock. Also, i once took the bike to the bush after a heavy rain, all muddy, sticky and soft. The mud got stucked between the guard and the fork stopping the wheel, so in that situation didn't help at all, but again, i could not ride much before sinking in the mud... Smiling

there are a few companies that sell protective film kits to reduce the impact of rubbing/scratching on your frame

http://frameskin.com/ - make protective film kits for specific bike makes/models and according to their website are Aussie designed and manufactured.

You can get packs of quite thick clear protective film from motor cycle stores too. 3 sheets 45x30cm was 15 bucks from Sydney City Motorcycles (Epping Road) IIRC.

I actually have loads of this stuff left from that purchase, it's waaaay more than you'll need for a build.

+1 for the Frameskin, or Helicopter Tape.

It fits well and stays on, and provides a great deal of protection.

What frame have you got anyway?

Take your car keys from your pocket & rub them along your chain stay until you can see shinny aluminium. Then take yourself out to the garage & cry until you can’t cry any more.
Once completed ride it like you stole it.
Problem solved
Cheers
