Seating of non-UST tyres in tubeless mode

Just fitted a set of non UST Nobby Nic and Racing Ralph tyres on rims with Stans rim strips - first time with this brand. They aired up ok up to 50psi, but I didnt hear any seating pop. Just checking if anyone has done this also - do they need to 'pop' to seat properly?? Any risk if they dont seat properly?

Don't have experience with Schwalbe rubber, but when I mounted non-UST Maxxis folding rubber on some Mavic CrossLands, they definitely popped as they went into the bead seating groove.

When you spin the wheels, does the tread area run true or does the tyre look like it's out of round?

On my Maxxis and Conti rubber there's a little pattern down near the bead, I'm assuming from some sort of machine that folds the plies over. I look to make sure that sits up an even distance from the rim edge all the way around both sides, just to be sure, and I do this even on my tubed tyres.

They seem to run true at first look, and doesnt seem to have an obvious section sitting up.
I'll have a closer look tonight, and maybe deflate / inflate again.
Cheers.

I've used Continental and Maxxis non-UST tyres as tubeless and never heard a pop when seating them. The Continental were a PIA to seal enough to get air in, but the Maxxis inflate with no problems.
I always pump them up to 50-60psi and leave them at that for a while before dropping to normal riding pressure (30-35psi).
I never hear a "pop" and they're usually well seated by about 20psi.
Perhaps it depends on rim design?
Definitely have a close look anyway and make sure they are seated consistantly around the rim.

i run stans rims wth a sml b8 and with the rimstrip i could never get the tyre to seat correctly,
so at the scott i got the mechanics to put rim tape on my rim with 2 wraps of electrical tape seated in a flash
with a few popps..

save the weight and ur money and do with out that big chunky bit of rubber

chops:)

on whether he has welded or pinned rims. Welded are fine to use just electrical tape, but pinned rims will slow leak.

Sorry, didn't read original post properly. My experiences with tyres popping were with proper UST rims.

I recently converted some Mavic XM117s to tubeless using Bontrager rim strips, and when I mounted soem original UST Maxxis Ignitors on them (yeah, I know, they're bricks) they sealed up perfectly with no popping. Didn't use any detergent or Stans either. I was just playing to see how the Bontrager strips would go, not expecting them to seal up but they did - quite surprising.

So long as they look like they're seated properly and run true with no obvious dips you're probably OK. (Usual caveats with taking responsibility for yourself apply of course. Eye-wink )

Quick warmup ride this morning showed all is good - no popping, but seem to seated nice and even. Thanks. Although I may try to ditch the rim strips after the this.
Boy these Schwalbe nonust feel fast compared to the crossmark LUSTs i had. awesome. Although i read that i need to avoid rocks against the sidewalls...
Hoping this will get me to the finish of the fling in PB !!
