Former minister Scully telling us to eff orf..
But I had a chuckle at this "If pedestrians and cyclists can share off-road cycle ways, then why not where appropriate, share footpaths? Local councils would have to step up and start building much wider footpaths and cyclists would need to take greater care of pedestrians."
Grass is always greener in someone else's portfolio...
It's as if he (and his former department?) has simply taken the "It's all too hard" approach and now wants to 'remove' the cyclist 'issue' altogether.
...about government policy and culture towards cyclists while he was in office, not least of whihc was the scuppering of the Bicycle unit within the RTA.
What an uninformed goose. The rubbish he carries on with about cyclists not contributing to the cost of road upkeep is simply breathtaking. No wonder he didn't last and made such a fool of himself while in office: why let truth and common sense get in the way of a good set of prejudices?
The good news is he is gone. Can we please vote in Mike Baird for roads minister?
@junkie: valid how?
I use the bike to commute three or four days a week from Seaforth to City and a few things always make me wonder if as cyclists we could do more to be more courteous.
Some examples are
- stopping traffic at the Spit lights by pressing the button rather than riding under the bridge and across to the other side, I notice cyclists doing it both ways and i wonder if one is preferable over the other
- turning off from the top of Parriwi straight onto Military Road (which i know can be a parking lot) rather than riding either back of Mosman through to the bridge or crossing over Spit road (at lights admittedly) and riding other side up to North Sydney/ Cammeray
To be honest Military/ Spit Road scare the crap out of me as i am not riding a roadie and i avoid it like the plague but i do wonder why sometimes we put ourselves into the fire to save a few minutes on the bike or avoid some hills.
It seems to me that dedicated back road cycling where available is surely a better approach
