Beat The Heat: Duck Holes + Centre Track Newby/Social Early Starter
Park opposite/beside Terrey Hills shops, corner Booralie Rd/Yulong Ave. Or in the small carpark next to the RFS station & community centre.
With all the hot weather we've been getting, it's time to start getting out a little earlier!
This ride will be at social pace, with time to regroup, take photos of the views, catch your breath, re-do sections if you wish. Distance is about 15km, with some elevation change and a small amount of road riding in the middle. Great views from parts of Centre Track, as advised by Rob.
I haven't ridden Centre Track myself yet, so we can explore together. Come and join us for the best part of the day.
Were you there and have a story to tell?

Love to be there I will be awake lol I think , will let you know next week
Pushin' the limits, I might even cruise out perimeter/long after.
Ill let u no if i can make it closer to the time, don't no if im in sydney. Been wanting to do duckhole for absolute ages now!
can't wait ...
Yeah I am in.
This time without a million beers for pre race preperation!
gonna try and see you there too!
It'd be good to catch up again. My young bloke is coming - what about yours?
friends of mine who aren't registered with nomob yet would like to come too ... that's mark s. and mark b. ... mark s. just bought a 2009 giant yukon white for especially for the ride ... please let me know if you would like me to create nobmob user accounts for them ... byron ...
Hey B,
They need to join as members themselves rather than have you create the accounts for them. That way they get all the usual heads-ups about riding responsibly and within their limits. They are also required to acknowledge they are responsible for themselves and the level of risk they undertake, and that you and I are not.
If you set up accounts for them, you will be wearing that responsibility.
Sorry to get all legal, but stuff happens from time to time and sometimes folks are less than adult about it, especially if there are personal financial consequences involved in the aftermath.
thanks for the clarification
i just sms'd them explaining and asking them to register ...
one of them sms'd back and said he is stuck on the m5 and will do it as soon as he gets home ...
wrt numbers though, please note it's still plus 2 (who will both register asap).
cheers

Exams are Saturday. Can ride Sunday. See you there!
@ John, yeah will be good to catch up again - been a while - will try and drag my son out of bed at 5.15 - ouch! Not the most popular time of day with a teenager.
I'm still on the borderline can I just show up if i'm awake to join you ?
So long as you're awake when you get here.
If you're running late SMS me - otherwise we'll assume a no-show means the sleep monsters got you.
@Naz: Hmm... teenagers... strange creatures, aren't they? I seem to recall I used to be one of them, once. Bizarre!
I need to find a new group to bike with.
will do my best to be there at 6:15. Do not wait for me, if slightly late, I (red bike and black helmet) will try to catch up. P.
belatedly realised how much I've got to do tomorrow to get ready for 5 weeks in NZ leaving Wed. stupidly didn't take mon and tue off to work it all out, so it all needs to be done tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you all while I'm packing and cleaning my bike at 6:15am instead of riding with you lot!
I wasnt feeling to bright this morning, so couldnt make it.
Sorry about that guys.
Hope you had a good one.
again i was amazed by how friendly and considerate the whole group are ... thank you ... nobmob highly recommended for anyone that has googled this and is wondering what the whole thing is about ... sign up ... give it a go ... the people are the nicest you'll find ...
ps: following your advice and we are going to put down some slow paced kilometres late this afternoon to develop bike legs ... oaks again hehehe
cheers
b.
Yeah thanks guys, that was a fun ride. This was a new track for me, and it's always good to do it with ppl who know the route.
Hi Byron, Glad you guys were all OK and that Mark made it back safely.
I had a thought on the way home from the trail regarding his issues with the heat: I noticed that his helmet was a pretty low-end one that had poor-to-non-existent ventilation. Spending a penny or two on a better ventilated unit might be helpful. I know I'd have been a lot less comfortable on the climbs if I'd been wearing his helmet.
herzog, that's a real nice ibis you have there. Sorry I didn't get to talk with you more - next time, maybe.
Yea a hydro pack wouldn't be a bad idea for your mates if they are planning on riding more too & going for a ride this arvo you might need some rest time after yesterdays rides as well , a hydro pack with spares & lollies is always good as well as riding legs too . We all started the same way
Thanks for the ride guys c u next time .... Russ
My first trail ride back after the op was pretty uncomfortable cardio fitness-wise, even though I'd been doing a bit of road riding - like Russ said, you gotta start somewhere.
You guys have been doing a fair bit of riding the last few days - a couple of days to recover before hitting up the next one might be a good idea, and will even see you showing some gains.
