Skinny tyres go on the 819s

Today I changed the tyres on the Yeti.

Brand new Monorail (2.1) on the front, brand new Larsen TT (2.0) on the back. Both LUST Kevlar bead. Let's call this it's 'XC trim'... for the upcoming trip. Probably only drop 300g weight compared to the 2.35 Minion/Highroller but these should roll a lot easier and they have the LUST side walls which feel a lot tougher.

Will hopefully have a quick test ride tomorrow to check the Monorail feels as good as others claim they do.

I found it really hard to get the Monorail in particular on the Mavic XM 819 rim. I mean really hard. Eventually the good old soapy water was required to help it slide on.

As they were both so tight though they aired up almost instantly without needing sealant and almost zero effort. Although after seating let the air out and put in some Stans for better puncture protection.

Good to see you taking the proper bike to NZ Rob. It's sure to love those tyres too.

Have fun over there, that video makes me SO jealous Sad

Pics please....2.0's on a Yeti...!

When I put the 2.25 Racing Ralphs on the Enduro it looked ultra skinny... (the RR's run a bit on the narrower side).

Had to switch to RR's 2.4's to match the original 2.3's width...but now it looks/feels bit on the "heavy" side for Rotorua....

Well, you know that a 2.0 Larsen is actually wider than a 2.1 Ignitor, or at least it looks that way on the bike. The 2.1 Ignitor did look really stupid on the front of the Yeti, but this 2.1 Monorail looks OK and feels good. It rolls really well and although it didn't get a huge test can't complain at all on the ride today.

The Larsen on the back is as expected - can get sketchy in loose surfaces but good on hard pack and rolls well.

Either way, all good for the trip Smiling

Hey Hans
I ran 2.0s in the Fling. GEAX Barro Race tyres. They didn't look too bad (see below) and boy they were fast!

OK...tempt me....

I actually rode a friends Epic with skinny 2.0 tyres on this morning's Waratah /DH / Ctre ride and yes that beast climbed well...

OK - what to get?...Swap to new RR's 2.25 that actually look like 2.0's (and I'm familiar with)...or try a new mix?
