When:
Sunday, 3 January, 2010 - 08:00
Duration:
3 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
If it's raining, I won't be there.
Ride Database Entry:
Appin
Meeting Point:

North end of Burke St, Appin. There's a small parking area here at the trail head.

Note that the map shows Market Street connecting Appin Rd to this location but that is actually a firetrail and will not work for drivers who should take King St (next block South) and enter from there.

Details:

I'm going to Appin tomorrow with the SUAR guys. Sadly cannot offer anyone a ride as already committed the space to them.

But... come along if you're in the area Smiling

Will probably be a medium pace with plenty of stops to play/practice the technical sections.

The plan is to be back home by noon so should be around 3 hours riding.

Never been here before. Do you need to wear armor? Also, is 2 hours enough time to get there?

What does the Google directions link say? Says 1h15 from my place which sounds about right. It's usually quite good.

You could throw on some armor if you're feeling delicate Eye-wink

If anyone is thinking of this and needs a lift I have room for one. I have posted my route and happy to make slight detours.

Great ride today. It's an awesome place to practice cornering properly as that single track is sweet Smiling. That 3rd lap put me over the edge. It was a cracking pace but I didn't have the legs or lungs to finish strong Sad

Nice to get out to Appin - One of the few trails I've not ridden before.

Was ok being a bit damp, traction was good, and the corners were 'soft' rather than 'loose and sketchy' - nice predictable drifting as the pace got a hot at times!
Stephe (from Shut Up And Ride) was entertaining as always (and looking pretty fit), and his friend Bob was very smooth and fast, showing some nice style over obstacles.
Rob was fit and fast too - his NZ trip and 4 million km of training lately is showing - that is until a tree root 'jumped out and grabbed him' he went down pretty hard and his bike ended up a tree! He bounced back though, and will probably want a shoulder rub or a relaxing bath tonight.
Nice to see Brian out there going strong too, with an ear to ear grin most of the time!

Yeah, it was fun even after being mugged by that duo of the tree root and rock!

Once the muscles cooled though it began to feel like I have been smashed in the left arm with a baseball bat and kicked in the ribs. Interesting as I didn't even feel the ribs until getting home. There is a nice bruise forming and some scratching on my right leg but that isn't even registering on the pain scale at the mo. Ouch!

At least I could sit on the couch all arvo and sympathise with the pain of the Aussie cricket team! Eye-wink

it went down with me when I got taken out by the car a few weeks ago.

I bounced straight up to get off the roadway, and didn't hurt that much at first. Hand started to give me grief about 5-10 minutes later. Following morning I couldn't move. Everything hurt. Had to be helped to the bathroom by the grumpy nurse. Sad

Take some Nurofen and the usual first aid steps: keep whatever you can that hurts elevated, ice for 20 minutes in the hour. Hope you're back to normal quickly. Well, for what passes as normal anyway! Sticking out tongue
