Pivot versus Yeti
I cant go riding due to rain, so I am considering next bike purchase. I like the look of Pivot Mach 5 or Yeti 575. Now just pretending I had $7k in my pocket. What do people think between these 2 or are there other options I should be looking at. Probably XT build is sufficient.

Trek Remedy! Once you get it can I please take it for a ride to see if it's every bit as good as all the reviews say it is?
I'm biased, but in that company you should check out the Ibis Mojo.
Santa Cruz Blur LTc
Love my 575 but if your really looking I think a better comparison for the Mach 5 would be the new ASR-5. It comes in alloy of full carbon frame. There are a couple of them at CBD and they look spectacular. The carbon in race kit is under $7k and weighs 11.4kg !. The black model on the floor had a double chainring setup and some nice DT swiss wheels ( with 142mm, bolt through rear end) and weighed 11kg ! It's also seriously stiff.....

Check out the Yeti 5 !
It is a new bike from Yeti similar geometry to the 575, but faster !!

Supposedly climbs like a hardtail, plush on the bumps, and non-noodly fork for accurate steering (for which Lefty forks can't be beat)!
No, I don't want a ride when you get it. Because then I'll have to buy one too.
it just flew past ... does the pivot come in orange ... if not go the yeti ...
I have agree with CB, The ASR-5 looks to be the business, though the Blur Lt-C is every bit as good as the 575 by all reports. The Santa-Cruz would be my bike of choice to replace the 575. Not ridden a Pivot yet, but they look fantastic. An Ibis just appears too expensive, but in reality can be had for similar money to the other brands, but oh that'd be like having a target on your back if you were a clumsy rider like me.
Gotta love a bike that goes up with the short travel bikes, and down with the big boys. Three years ago there was almost nothing, now you get spoilt for choice.
I just wish .......
Failed rear triangles. So I would recommend a Mach 5 over a Yeti. But you will get many opinions on this issue.
FWIW, I reckon you can get better bikes for $7K than these two.
Yeti, I was lucky enough to ride the superlight and the ASR on the same day and the yeti was climbing very efficiently, and was very responsive compare to the superlight. They are both magic carpet machine down the hill though. You should give the yeti a go, I think there is a demo one at CBD but not 100% sure! Pivot bike just look cheap to me but that is a personal opinion Anyway enjoy your bike shopping time !
I'm sorry, but when I first saw a Pivot it had a lot of bling gear on it, and I said, "Wow, that must be light"... but it wasn't. They are also bl00dy expensive so have no excuse for the lard.
If you want a DW link, try a Mojo. Otherwise, go a Yeti. I'm very happy with my 575 which has had a good deal of abuse but stood up to it all without flinching.
Liam, I believe it is only the full carbon fibre rear triangles which have had issues on the Yeti. I was advised when looking for my bike, that to go large (or land heavily like I do) and use the full potential of the 575 the Aluminium chain stays were more resilient. Not that I took this to mean the CF were weak, just sliding down, or bouncing off, a rock with a carbon stay is always going to be a bigger issue than alu! Changing the geo on CRP will always compromise strength.
Specialized $6100USD (so a little in the pocket for armour or such) S-Works Stumpjumper Carbon HT hardtail weighs in at under 20lb (<9.071kg)

& what sort of bike was he riding even know he has 2 or more & gets them for free .... this will get things going & one of our own is riding a 29er in this brand of bike as well ?
Well it's too obvious an answer for me. Go the 575 every time.
Those who are interested in the Blur, my riding buddy has one LTc , and I must say it's a beautiful bike. However it is almost identical in geometry to the 575. And despite the all that carbon bling, it still weighs in around the same. Ask Chica, I see he rides one too.
The Yeti 5 on the other hand looks like a completely new class of beast.
I wouldn't swap my 575 for the world. It's an all-mountain mean muthafugger, and I love it!
(Must admit I do like the Ibis tho)
I am over the moon with my 575 but if I was to get another I would probably get the ASR. This isn't for any reason than I am concentrating more on XC these days and less on free riding. Don't get me wrong, the 575 is great as a XC machine, but at around 13 kilos it's not as light as other XC bikes (13 kilos is still pretty darn light for a bike with almost 6" of travel though). It's handling in the rough is sensational and it climbs as well if not better than anything else.
End of the day, it depends what riding you want. The 575 would win for me (obviously) but the ibis and pivot both look very nice too. You need to ride them to make your own mind up, IMO threads like this really won't tell you anything and if anything will confuse more than help, people will always recommend what they have.
Except I want to remain different so I recommend you stay well clear of yeti, especially orange ones
As Toast and others have mentioned, be aware of people who give their views that are based off what they have read or heard elsewhere i.e. they don't have first hand experience on the matter.
People do make jokes and poke fun at other brands, but sometimes the humour is completely missed.
I mean seriously, you shouldn't be looking at anything other than a Cannondale...
Go Junkie , it was good to have a chat too you on Sat
