Duration:
2 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
If it's raining, I won't be there.
Ride Database Entry:
Red Hill
Meeting Point:

Red Hill Reserve car park, off Lady Penryhn Drive, Beacon Hill. Another option is to ride over here from Oxford Falls.

-33.744534, 151.255780 (Red Hill Carpark)
Details:

A tour of the hill for anyone that's up for it.

Its not a Downhill ride, nor is it an XC ride.. lets just call it a technical ride

Planning about a 15K ride, no real need for armor, I don't wear it (famous last words?) but of course your more than welcome to wear it as there will be plenty of opportunities to go crazy ( if your into that kinda thang ).. you just gotta be prepared to wear it for some uphill as well.

WARNING, this is no easy Saturday morning Lycra clad trail ride down to the cafe to eat some cheese with your soy latte.. you can really break your body here, be sure to have your personal details on a tag in your left shoe and remember to say goodbye to loved ones before you head off for the morning, couldn't hurt to have a current life insurance policy and an updated Will.

Although the hill is classed as "super your sure to kill yourself super technical", B-lines are abundant and you can walk what you cant ride (I generally walk a lot of them).

Who's in?
nickz, ScottM, VC, obmal, naz, Pants, Rooster, Justin99 (8 riders)

But a computer glitch has seen my life insurance lapse

Probably all for the best
Nowhere on the northern beaches does a decent soy latte
And the last time I rode RH, I had to take my own bloody camembert

Enjoy

Red Hill 1 v Scott Ransom aluminium chainstay 0. I hope you guys had a great day at Red Hill. The chainstay broke clean through adjacent to the weld near the chainrings and we hadn't even ridden on anything fast or rough! At least it wasn't the carbon frame. Had checked and adjusted the whole bike last night and the break (or a visible crack) sure as hell wasn't there then. Jumped on the web and found a couple of posts about the same problem with some 2006 and 2007 bikes. According to those posts, Scott has sinced beefed-up the aluminium in this area (which looks pretty thin on mine). I guess I'll be contacting the distributor on Monday to see what's doing.

Ended up riding the Dam on my old hardtail with V brakes! A bit of air in the tyres (hadn't ridden it for a while) and she was keen to go (nowhere near as nice to ride as the Ransom but, hey, I couldn't walk it could I?).

Hope to get up there another time.

Cheers

If you require a good aluminium welder let me know as the guy who welded up my scott frame after i cracked it did an excellent job and its far stronger than the original weld.

I'll give you a call if I need to head down that path.

To see that swingarm break was rough, so soon into the ride! I hope you get it fixed or have Scott bikes sort you out, that shouldn't happen.

Thanks for a great ride guys, and thanks to obmal for showing me the way through sections I hadn't ridden before. I'll be a bit more adventurous next time!
