Super Tuesday bike count volunteers needed in Warringah

Dear Cycling Comrades,
OK, so it doesn't take me long to call in favours Eye-wink
I just had a call from Super Tuesday organisers about Warringah's shortage of human counters next week. Please see email below. This is NOT a council operation, but as you may know, Warringah Council is rolling out the Bike Plan 2010-15 right now for public consultation (out of mothballs after 12 years on the shelf). More to come on that later.
Council management will rely heavily on stats from next week's annual bike count result to fund and prioritise future cycleways.
I'll be at Oliver St & Pittwater Rd on the day, but that one's ok for counters.
Please give it up for the roadies if you can spare the time next Tuesday morning to count. And when you register, Bicycle Vic gives $50 to your nominated charity, which is a sweet bonus to the Karma points.

Bicycle Network is coordinating a national bike count event on Tuesday 2 March called Super Tuesday. We are counting in Sydney this year and we need your support!
Super Tuesday is a Bicycle Network event coordinated by Bicycle Victoria. This visual bike count, counts riders in the am peak from 7am – 9am.
Super Tuesday aims to establish a reliable annual benchmark for bicycle commuting to allow those providing for bike riding to base their judgements on accurate, relevant and up to date information.
We are recruiting volunteers to participate in the count. Each person who completes a successful count can nominate your club to receive $50 as reward for their work. For example, if ten people nominate your club that’s $500!
Registration can be completed at this page - http://www.bv.com.au/bike-futures/91111/.
This is an online registration system that enables counters to choose and book the site location they want to count at.
Please forward this email to friends, family, colleagues and other members of your groups/community who would be interested in helping us to get More People Cycling More Often.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information.

Unfortunately work comes first for myself as well. This is however, exactly that sort of thing that I would be happy to assist with as long as my work boss and home boss are ok with it!

Good to hear you passionately defending common sense over poor leadership decisions.

I have booked a site online.

I'm in a similar position to daveh, unfortunately. Midweek mornings are tough. Sad

Keep me on your list of contacts - there will be something I can help you with.

Guys, if any of you have more flexibility in the mornings than I, this would be good way to repay Virginia for some of the blood she sweat to help us get our trail access back.

I can help by being surveyed as I commute to work Laughing out loud

Well, by some miracle my commute to Newtown will miss every polling point. I would imagine that many others will follow my route as well which is a shame. I will try to divert course tomorrow just to register.

Dylan, just keep riding around the block to make up for it Smiling

Thanks all, you guys rock. Give me a wave if you ride by at Queensy 2moro.

As I was turning right onto Pittwater Rd outside Bike Addiction. I was in a car unfortunately. Sad

Hope you counted lots of cyclists.

PS Nice looking cruiser you have there.

CB's picture

I was at the junction of Condamine and Campbell Parade at Manly Vale this morning and to my surprise I only counted 23 cyclists in the 2 hour period. I ride through this junction most days ( at different times ) and usually see a fair number of cyclists so I expected more than 23.

Although the weather was dry and relatively cool, the wind and rain the previous evening will undoubtedly meant that a number of commuters will have left their bikes at the office last night and so wouldn't be on the road this morning. Of the 25 regular bike commuters in my office, only 4 rode in this morning, the rest didn't ride home last night because of the weather .... ( I must say, it felt just like summer in Glasgow ...)

Wonder what effect this will have on the overall numbers ?

110 rode by me at Bike Addiction, good result I thought. Yes, my cruiser is very cool, thank you.

Virginia Laugesen's picture

Maybe Bike Vic has a way of smoothing the numbers over time, for weather conditions? Hope so.

I was going to ride today but was put off by the weather forecast. I would think this had an effect on others as well.

I'll be riding tomorrow though, so you could always pretend you saw me if you are after the numbers Smiling
