Hi i think my bike is ready for a service.

Can anyone suggest where to take my bike for a service and will a brake bleed be included or extra. After all the sh*t with my brakes i think they need another bleed Sad

Thanks

Dee Why - always helpful and very reasonable with pricing.

Fraser Lindsay - drbike.com.au

Reliable / Local / Quick and reasonably priced.

Have used if the last year for all my servicing and never had great results.

I've had some frustrations in the past with their attention to detail. Their workshop was a primary motivator for me to become self-sufficient, especially around shifter setup and adjustment. It turned out that the chain was too long ex-Mongoose factory, and that was what was leading to the chain jumping off on the shift to the little ring, so perhaps I'm being unfair.

That said, pricing is very reasonable and the mechanics are very approachable and willing to educate.

@Dicko - is there a typo in your recommendation? are you saying not good results?

If you are chummy with someone at your LBS of choice, I am sure you could swindle this brake bleed out of them for free, or at least for a small add-on fee. Another +1 for BA here, they are pretty good but a bit of a trip for you. The only shop I could recommend that is anywhere near you is Belrose Bikes, who have done a decent job on my rigs in the past.

Yep

Sorry about the typo - Fraser IS very reliable, and I have always had GREAT results !

Hope that sets the record straight !

I second that notion. Belrose Bikes rules as Adrian knows his stuff and is always freindly . Eye-wink

Am I the only one who has had mixed fortunes at Bike Addiction?

My yearly service ended up costing over $800 recently which I was happy to pay (cracked axles, warped rear rotor meant they spent a number of hours on it) but my main complaint of the rear derailleur constantly jumping out of gear (the whole reason the bike went in for a service) wasn't fixed. Had to book in another appointment. A week later it was ready. Picked up the bike, rode it out in the parking lot and it was exactly the same! They hadn't done anything to it! While I waited (busy Saturday morning) they got their 'main derailleur guy' to fiddle with it for a couple of minutes, until it wasn't constantly wandering in and out of gear. Its still not right and still jumps out of gear 6 under load but its rideable. Next service though I'm trying someone else.

look at your hanger that might be out of wack a little bit too

deRuyter,

Just take it to Belrose Bikes or Northern Beaches Cycles (which ever is closer for you). Pending how busy they are they'll have it sorted for you in a giffy.

There's a lot of love for Chris and Adrian on here. NBC is the closest bike shop to home, I'd ridden by it a dozen times and had never stopped on the way to Red Hill. Chris fixed my bike then and there the first time I met him on the way home from a ride when I had no cash on me. Way to make a good first impression. Since then I bought my wife's bike off him, my daughter's bike, and this Wednesday I'll drop close to $5k on a new bike and some bits for myself. Go to NBC/BB for the following:

1. Personalised service
2. Local knowledge
3. Interesting range of bikes
4. They ride too (it says so on the van! lol)
5. Fast turn around on servicing
6. Cheap drinks
7. Happy enough to indulge me when all I want to do is shoot the breeze.

BA to their credit contacted me after posting my experience on this thread and I brought the bike in again for them to have a look at. They did some adjustments (hanger was slightly bent) and replaced the new XT cassette for free. Final verdict was that if it still wasn't right it would have to be a faulty X7 shifter. It was better but would still jump under load and occasionally wander in and out of gear when shifting. Since I use my bike every day to go to work in the city I decided to put up with it until I had some time to bring the bike back in.

This morning it was constantly wandering in and out of gear. At Wynyard the chain snapped (XT and only a month old). I walked it down to Clarence Street Cycles. When I picked it up this afternoon they told me the chain had been way too loose and asked if I had installed it myself. They took a link out and said if it was skipping under load than a loose chain was most likely the cause. I've only ridden it briefly but it seems perfect now. No skipping and no wandering in and out of gear and the shifting is crisp and precise. Happy that its finally sorted and big up to Clarence Street Cyclery.
