Problem with Brakes

Hi all,

I have an issue with my front hydro brakes the issue is that I have removed the pads to check and change when i removed them i noticed the piston not returning all the way back in I have tried pushing them back in with no luck also have pumped the brake hoping this would work but no luck again the more i pumped the further it came out and then eventually opened slightly and some oil came out. I have pushed it a fair way back in but there is still a couple of mill left and it would cause some serious drag on the wheel. Is there anything else i can try ?

all fixed put new brake on as my hayes ones had blown out big time.

I have hayes 9 hydraulic brakes and when i first changed my pads i had the same prob - no matter how much i forced the pistons back they would no go back enough.

I eventually bled out some fluid by taking off the sealing cap that is located at the brake lever and gently squeezed the lever until a little bit of fluid came out. I did this in gradual steps until the pistons could be pushed back enough to fit the new pads in.

Pumping the brake will only make the piston push out further.

Hi All,

I had problems with my Hayes brakes on my commuter, and just decided to replace them with new. Hayes Stroker Trail 09 for $US 69 per end including 6 inch rotor, these are pre bled and ready to bolt on. With the cost of bleeding and new pads etc, it was better value to buy new and I'm very happy with the brakes. This is not a paid ad, just a great bargain I think.

It's cheaper to just buy a new brakeset than buy new pads!

When I last looked to replace some hayes pads, it was AU$82 an end! Evil

I have both Hayes 9 and avid Juicy 7 and I'm sure I have never spent more than 20 odd bucks for a set of pads and have seen them for something around 15... Hey Hawkeye, I'll sell you a set for 50? Cool
