MTB motard racing
I was fortunate enough to catch wind of a 'test' race being held tonight at St Ives, around H.A.R.T.
Turramurra Cyclery used to hold a Wednesday night crit race round there before the powers that be made them shut it down as it wasn't a sanctioned event!
The clever way around this is to hop on a mountain bike and do half off road and half on road racing(motard)
About 20 people turned up tonight for the 'test' run so we could all get a feel for how it would be and give feedback at the end.
Well! what can i say apart from BLOODY AWESOME!
Fast and furious is what it is, start on the road then head off down into loose firetrail corners, not to rough but you have to keep your whits about you, some nice corners and tight turns onto and back off the road before heading up the long straight to the finish line and first lap.
it really is a great mix as you seem to quickly realise the guys you need to stick with and you all form a small pack and race round together, spreading out a bit on the trails then quickly forming a line for less wind resistence up the hill just as you would on the road!
20 mins plus two laps was enough tonight as you dont get as much rest as during a road race as you're either holding tight off road or pushing hard on the gas whilst on the road.
although there was some fit guys there it all seemed like a bit off a laugh with some guys going off track on loose corners and trying hard to catch up to the bunch but with a bit of banter going on at the same time i could tell everyone had a blast!
This has to be the best fun i've had on a bike in ages! not as lonelly as an mtb race and more relaxed than a road race with plenty happening through the lap.
cant wait till they get something organised for more of these! anyone who fancies a bit of a laugh and wants to pick up there game through the winter months should have a go at this!
i'll try and give an update when i hear more!

motard, TOO........... with a 450cc powerplant!! But this sounds good, too!
what tyre would you use? and @ what pressure?
tell us the price, son!
That sounds brilliant, nice and close too. Would love to attend the next one.
spoke to Simon (from TORC) today and he is keen as...
I will have a go, too! love that sort of stuff!
Gaz, great write up!
Bernrd I ran an ignitor on the front and a monorail on the back at regular pressures. I had my suspension locked off for the whole race and it worked pretty well. There was one nice sharp corner on the bitumen that you could really lean into. Lot's of fun playing chicken with other riders to see who would brake the least!
